Anyone use a name change service?

A friend rcommended missnowmrs.com. Seems worth it considering they give all the forms filled out and with filing info. Has anyone used them or some other service? Is it worth it? Or should I just do it all myself?

    You don't need it. The only "forms" you need are a copy of your marriage certificate and... that's about it. It's really easy. Just change stuff as it comes in.

    I didn't use one.  I didn't have a problem changing my name on anything and I didn't have to pay for anything more than my driver's license and passport pictures (my passport was issued within the year).






    What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

    It is not hard to change your name.  The only places you really HAVE to go change your name are the BMV and SS offices.  Which you have to do in person anyhow.  The rest you just do over the phone or as they come up.  One credit card asked me to send a letter requesting the name change.  Everything else, I just tell them the new name and they update their systems.

    Ditto Sco - it's not really necessary.  I just printed a reminder list from google of what all to change.  Started w/ SS and then the driver's license and went from there.
    Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

    Sweet. I figured it must be fairly easy since it's so common, but my friend made it sound like a nightmare and then I started counting all my accounts that would need to be changed. I will save myself the money. Thanks, girls!

    BTW - I was able to fill out the SSN form and passport form right from the internet.  Just print and fill them out, that way it's done before you get there.

    I wouldn't even waste the money.  It's a little time consuming, but it's pretty self explanatory.  It doesn't take too long to fill out the forms anyway.  It's the running around and waiting that are the annoyance.  I highly suggest making an appt. with the SSA when the time comes.

    Oddly, I had to do my DL before my SS card.  I went to SSA with my marriage certificate, and she sent me to the DMV, because nowhere on the certificate did it state what my new name would be (duh). I had to sign an affadavit at the DMV stating what my new name would be and sign it with said new name, then they gave me a new DL.  THEN I took that to SSA, and they issued me a new card. Only thing I can figure is the way the marriage license from Nevada was worded and because it was from out of state. But yeah, it was an easy process. Those two took me a couple of hours, I guess? And that includes an hour's worth of driving time (I went to the DMV in the county where I live, because it is less crowded).
