Color Crisis!

Ok so here's the deal. I have a little less than 7 months till the wedding and i have selected a purple theme. My bridesmaids and MOH are wearing different style dresses in different shades of purple and the reception is going to be decorated in various shades of purple, white and silver. My predicament is this. I am concerned that purple wont be summery enough. We havent placed the order for the bridesmaids dresses yet, i have about 3 weeks to decide. My other option that i like is a blue/yellow theme. I think it's more summery but i am concerned that changing things now would be difficult. Am I the only one that has commitment problems with my color scheme?

Re: Color Crisis!

  • Yea, this is not a crisis.  It's colors and not a big deal.  And you still have 7 months to go.  Chill!Choose whatever colors you want for your wedding and don't match the colors to the season.
  • The colors honestly don't matter.  Save your energy for something that does (like when your GM decides it would be best to cuss you out over the phone in the middle of the rehearsal because he's lost).

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Calm down. Stick with the purple.
  • Yeah, this is not a crisis. Just use the colors you want, as long as FI is okay with them too. Is FI okay with purple? Mine wouldn't be.Also, agree with navy about the season. You don't have to match your colors to the season. And purple can be summery. I certainly wear purple in the summer.Am I the only person who really dislikes the color combination of blue and yellow? Those are the colors of my grad school, and as a result I haven't bought any school spirit stuff.

Wouldn't it be nice to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
  • Your wedding will be badass in purple. Do it.

  • You're always going to see weddings done in other colors and have a little envy. At least that's the way I was in choosing colors. If you like the purple, then do that. Don't worry about the season.
  • ok really ladies i know its not a crisis, but catchy titles bring responses...thanks for the input
  • Seriously, purple is gorgeous (just look at Daff's bio) and it can absouletely look summery. Hello, violets, lilac...
  • I love purple. And I agree about the envy thing. I loved our colors (aqua and red), but I kind of want to have 10 more weddings with 10 different color and decor schemes. And 10 different dresses. I just want to do everything.

  • Ditto TLV. I could totally do a million different weddings.
  • FYI - this is one of the most active boards on theknot.  You don't need a catchy title to get responses here.  All it will serve to do is get you flamed for being over-dramatic.And, I agree w/ PPs.  Colors don't need to match a season. At all.  Did the store give you that date as the last chance to order the dresses?  Because that seems like a REALLY long time for BM dress orders
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • If your BMs have picked their dresses and they are happy, just chill with it.  Brighten it up with bright purple (and maybe pink) flowers.  It will be fine.
  • Your definitely not the only color commitment phobe i think i've change my idea a million times but as you can see from my ticker i still have a ways to go...
  • I too am having trouble deciding our wedding is Nov next yr ( start of summer in oz) Colors to date orange, black, and silver. But I really love purple and am having a hard time sticking to the black orange silver theme. You like myself have a ways to go. No matter what the color theme is, the day will be special.Good luck. Hope you can make up your mind.
  • Thanks for all the responses! I feel a lot calmer about sticking with the purple theme. The dresses are being ordered early intentionally the dress shop does have a 4-5 month time frame for delievery even on bridesmaid dresses. I ordered my dress two months after I got engaged and it took 6 months to be delievered.
  • Stick with purple.  I did chocolate brown for my August wedding and I think it looked great ;-)  You don't have to match the season and purple is summery.
  • Stick to your original thought it sounds beautiful!
  • 'catchy' titles like this make you look like someone who seriously thinks that colors will affect your marriage in any way, shape, or form.  They don't.  Go with what you like and don't piss everyone off by changing things now.
