Wedding DJ/Band?

So we were originally planning to have my older cousin and his band play at our reception. This was the first thing we planned when we set our wedding date. It was a no brainer - his band is awesome and he's family! Well, turns out he and his band are having a lot of issues and the band is breaking up. I know 5 months is plenty of time to find other entertainment, but it was something I wasn't expecting to have to research at all. So... I need your help!Who did you use for your reception entertainment? Did you have a DJ or a Band? Any recommendations? :)TIA!!

    we had a DJ -- DJ Dave Lynch... he was awesome! Sorry to hear about your cousin's band :-( Good luck in your search!

    We used a DJ (Nazzy from WJYY). He was fantastic!! He did a few trivia games, got the grandparents on the dance floor and made it an overall great evening. We've gotten so many compliments on him. We've been to a few weddings with bands and never really enjoyed the entertainment (that's our personal opinion). Some songs are not the same when sung by a band! I did learn this: you generally have to feed the vendors some type of meal. It's alot cheaper to feed a dj and sometimes an assistant versus feeding a band of 6-10 people.

    He had DJ Joe O'Leary from A Goodtime DJ. I've been to weddings with both bands and DJs and I think it's just a matter of preference. A DJ is much more budget friendly and may be easier to book than a band at 5 months. GL!

    We had a band... the Marsels out of Boston... they were fantastic... the dance floor was bumping all night long. I feel the opposite of the PP... I find bands at weddings much more entertaining and fit for ALL guests. It is always uneasy to be dancing to "Baby got back" with Granny sitting 3 feet from you... lol... but again, it's just my opinion! :) Bands ARE more expensive all around... they cost more and you have to feed more... but for our wedding... it was worth all of it.
