NWR: I adopted a cat last night

Last night I drove to MD to adopt a kitten in need. It's the kind of cat we've been looking for for a while, a Siberian (they are hypo allergenic and my husband is allergic) so it was totally worth driving to Baltimore for him :) We have a pet dog, Oscar, who is absolutely insane.. So we get the kitten home and put him in the guest room to get him adjusted slowly without throwing him straight into Oscars face. Oscar comes inside and smells there is a kitten in the house and absolutely goes NUTS. They say keep the kitten in a room and let the dog and kitten smell each other through the door for a few days and slowly introduce them for a few minutes each day with the dog on a leash. We tried today to introduce them from a distance, but kitty panicked and Oscar went nuts as usual. So it'll be a little while before we let them meet again. Meanwhile, today I feel like the mother of 2 toddlers.. I got NO sleep because I had to keep telling Oscar to lay down and stop whining (he was pacing all night knowing there was a cat in the room down the hall) and meanwhile the cat is VERY vocal and meows a lot. I've been alternating who is allowed out at a time, which is fun... Oscar goes outside for a bit if it's not raining, kitten comes downstairs with me, Oscar comes back in, kitten goes back in guest room. Can't wait till my husband comes home to help me out here! LOL. This is great practice for handling two fighting toddlers one day. :) I've had cats and dogs my whole life, so I know after a few days of the hecticness they will adjust and eventually become good friends, but the next few days we are sure in for some interesting times!

No name yet.. He's all black - these are some names we were throwing around: 1. Black Bean (cause he's black and it's funny - like people naming their cats after food, ie; tator-tot) 2. Merlin (cause, duh) 3. Midnight (cause, also duh) 4. Ridley (because we passed a sign that was an exit for Ridley on the way to get him) 5. Twizzler (because he played w twizzlers on the ride home) 6. Cry Baby (because he is vocal and has NOT stopped crying all day) 7. Dusty (because when we got him home he ran under the couch and came out covered in dust) I am not normally a fan of cat names that are super common typical cat names though, so dusty merlin midnight are probably out.. Personally I think black bean is kinda cute. and Ridley in general is a cool name.

Very cute! congrats! One name I always liked for a cat was Ripley.   It was my sister's cat's name.  Ripley, is the name of the woman in the movie Alien & Ripley the cat's job was to keep the "aliens" away. (spiders and other creepy crawlers that tend to appear less often when cat's are around).I thought it was cute.

I like Ridley.  I also like Meriln b/c that's how my mom and Grandmother, who was originally from baltimore, pronounces Maryland.Congrats on the new addition, I'm sure Oscar will make nice and eventually fall in love :)

How cute!  How about Blackjack?  Or you could be super-fancy and call him Noir.  ;)Post some pics!

Ooh.,.. I do like Noir, thats fancy. Someone suggested Othello for the literary allusion/alliteration. All day so far it's just been "kitty kitty" .. :) As for a photo:

My husband decided on Merlin - I like the play on words as mentioned above since Merlin is sort of similar to "Maryland" where we got him from. Although honestly I've taken to calling him "kitty kitty" the past few days so the liklihood of anyone but dh calling him Merlin isn't too good ;) (my vote would have been for Noir though if it were up to me.. but I decided since I was stuck on "kitty kitty", to let dh make the final decision).
