Who is your photographer?

And when you were finding a photog... were you really picky too!? I swear, everyone I see I go "ah ha, ok that looks ok... oh dear lawd, what were they thinking with THAT shot?!"Am I being unreasonably picky?

Our photographer was Albert Lau. He's based in Walnut Creek, but is willing to travel. We were pretty picky about what we wanted for our photos. Albert was great to work with on our wedding day, very calm/professional. We had a special request, which was to put together a slideshow of our tea ceremony and ceremony to play at our banquet while I was changing, which he did a wonderful job with in under 2 hours time. I would absolutely recommend him. BTW, I don't think you could be too picky about picking a photographer. Good Luck!

Lisa Leigh (lisaleigh.com) I LOVE HER. The only photos of hers that I would say I went eh? to were ones that the bride and groom had insisted upon, which were not my taste! But that shows that she is accommodating!

Meg and Michael, megandmichaelweddings.com We picked them for starters because we are getting married at Stanford Memorial Church, where the lighting is horrible and there are strict restrictions on where the photogs can stand. We looked at their pics from previous Stanford weddings (they've done several hundred there). They are very touchy feely, but it's kind of cute. and when we went to meet them they basically gave us a free photo shoot on the spot as a sample of their work. The prices are fairly reasonable (if anything in this business is). I'm really looking forward to our engagement shoot with them! Allyson

Our photographer was Debbie Norman at Lily Rose Photography.  Debbie is the owner and a complete professional.  Her photos are beautiful!  You can check out some of her work in both my planning (engagement shots) and married bios.  I would definitely encourage you to be picky. Don't choose somebody unless you love their work and you really connect with them.  GL!

I used Blueberry Photography- Amanda Tungwww.blueberryphotography.comI cannot say enough good things about Amanda and her team.  She did our wedding in September 2007- outside, in the dark.  This is not easy.  We met and went through half a dozen photographers portfolios, asked them questions, talked about expectations- and I couldn't get over how many of the photographers told ME how my photos should be.  Amanda met with us- in ORANGE COUNTY by the way- and she was the first photographer that LISTENED to what I wanted.  I am one of those people who knows exactly what they want-I proceeded to explain to her the timing of the wedding, the lighting challenges, the style I wanted, and the sort of shots I was looking for.  I wanted to do outdoor portraits during the day, before the night ceremony.  The ceremony and reception photos were to be editorial, and to show a TRUE portrayal of the events that transpired... not a fantastic glossed over version..  I told her if someone got drunk and danced on the table, I wanted it photographed.  I want to remember what REALLY happened, not what brides normally wish had happened.  I also pointed out that I wanted candid shots, and that I didn't want too much focus on ME (the bride).  I knew it was unusual, but I really wanted to see all of my guests and what they are doing... I knew my memories of the night would be of the guests, because I wasn't going to be carrying around a mirror staring at myself all night.  I wanted her to photograph through MY eyes, so that I had photos to supplement my memories.  I also added, that I liked more artistic looking photos, and also wanted the reception photos to be mostly candid.Needless to say, she starting talking about ideas she had, and confirmed what I was saying by showing me examples in her portfolio, and asking me questions too.  She really seemed to grasp my vision - as opposed to the other photographers that just nodded, or said "I can do that" without any real proof in their portfolio. We hired her, signed the contracts, and she kept in very good contact with me leading up to the wedding date.  She arrived at the wedding EARLY, with her assistant.  She had some great ideas for the portraits in the park, and was very professional and we felt very comfortable around her.At the reception, she and her assistant were running around capturing all the action- even the funny things- like my bouquet landing in the chandelier when I tossed it (oops!).  It's exactly what I wanted.  I couldn't hit that chandelier again if I tried!!  But very memorable, and now part of the photo albums too :)  She also took direction, and I felt absolutely no EGO when I gave her direction, like pointing at my little niece dancing and signaling for her to take a photo.  By the same token, she was invisible most of the night, capturing candid shots and staying out of the way.  I'm guessing hardly anyone knew she was there.Afterwords, we received our photo DVD very promptly- I believe in just under 4 weeks.  The photos were more than I could have ever hoped for.  They are absolutely beautiful, and just want I wanted.  I would recommend her to ANYONE.  She was definitely the best part of our wedding experience.  I feel like I owe a lot to her :)

When we were looking for a photographer we first asked our wedding planner at our venue site a list of preferred photographers and I went from there. I really wanted someone who was familiar with the venue and also loved it. Second, what hurt the most was finding out prices that most photographers charge. I think we will go into the photography business after we marry! jk. I noticed who was really contacting me and to me that made me realize who I wanted. I negotiated a package and a price with her that was very reasonable. Her name is Lori Rittinger and her site is rittingerphotograpy.com go check her out. Her approach is to be personal and that is something we definitely wanted from someone not only taking our most important memories of our wedding day but also for how much money goes into photos. I remember always hearing brides say "Don't skimp on your photography by going with the less expensive photographers" and I see why. I too, was very picky so don't feel bad about being picky...when all is said and done, 50 years from now you will be showing your children your wedding album and recalling what a beutiful day it was! =)

We went with Ille Photography.  He is a family member of mine but we wanted him to be in the wedding party so initially we researched many other options.  (In the end we gave him the choice to be in the party or shoot the wedding and he chose to shoot the wedding :) )  It's hard not to be picky when u know that their photos is how you will remember your day years from now.  There were lots of easy "no way"s and lots in between.  I don't think it's bad to be picky but I think its also important to note if it's a style you're not liking as in the overall portfolio or if its one wedding's shots.  A couple someone has shot may have requested particular shots that you don't like and you could just as easily request not to have that kind.  Good Luck!
