AllieCarrie

Hey are you still using Invisalign? May I ask exactly what the problem was with your teeth? I have a consult with an ortho on the 30th.Here's my situation:I had braces when I was younger and my bottom teeth never shifted, but in the last few years I noticed that my one tooth next to my two front teeth is turning in a little bit. It's not horrific by any means, but I am worried it will worsen with time and I feel like I can notice it in pictures. It's making the same tooth on the other side turn a lil bit too so it's really annoying me.I was thinking of asking for Invisalign but I dunno if my situation is just not that serious for it. I mentioned it to the dentist today and she said they will prob give me a retainer. But I really don't want to look like a 12 yr old walking around with a retainer lol

I should mention it's the top teeth that are the problem.

Ok, sorry to butt in.  Putting on my tooth fairy hat.  :)Your teeth will shift with time if not kept in retention.  The retainers for invisalign are clear...if you have the ortho make you a retainer and just wear it at night, your teeth will at least stay where they are if you decide you don't want to spend the money on Invisalign. They may be able to do a lingual bar as a retainer, where it is on the tongue side and you don't see it.  However they are sometimes tricky to keep clean.

::butting in:: I started Invisalign last week and have a similar situation. I had braces as a kid and then my teeth shifted over the years. My doc said I'll only need it for 5 months because my teeth don't have far to move. Thing is, you can barely see the clear retainer but they put this teeth-colored "bumps" on each tooth that they are trying to move and then the retainer fits over it. Also, everytime you eat or drink you have to take it out, rinse, wet the retainer and put it back, which is kind of annoying. I'm sure when it's done I'll be so happy I did it. Depends on how bad your teeth bother you.

Kimmy...I seriously just asked my husband if they could do a retainer on the other side of my mouth. I asked him if that was "even an invention" LOL! I would rather have that. I want it to fix them not keep them in place they way they are now.I think it's so weird my bottom teeth never shifted. I do still have my old retainer but it doesn't fit anymore. Jaime,  she is on my FB but I never really talk to her...I'll ask her about it.

But while you are wearing the Invisalign you can't see it at all?

lol! :)You can't really see the invisalign.  You might speak with a slight lisp in the beginning, or when you change trays but that is it.The "bumps" are called buttons and blend in but they help with the movement of the teeth.  Some people need them, some don't.  I guess kind of like the elastics you might use for traditional braces.

omg i LOVE my invisalign.  seriously, and if you want to use them, and anyone who used them before and wants the credit, you can put our names in and get $$$ back ;)  let me know!  i threw that offer out when i first bought but no takers. ANYWHO yes i am on tray 6 of 10.  minor shifting of my bottom teeth in the front, upper jaw was too narrow and two front teeth stuck out a tad.  little stuff, but like you, it annoyed me.  and insurance pays $2000 so i was like it's now or never.  i am super self-conscious at times and i totally feel fine and myself with these in, around anyone and everyone.  i am in sales and present for a living: i needed to be able to speak clearly, smile, talk... ALOT.  and i didn't have any issue from the moment i got them.  they aren't like retainers, there is no weird plastic part getting in the way of your tounge.  they are smoothed perfectly to your teeth.  they kinda feel nice after awhile... best of all they curb your snacking a bit bc you won't want to brush your teeth so much lol... i have two "bumps", you hardly can see mine.  some ppl have more bumps depending on needs of movement on top.  the top trays around the bumps, taking in and out, is what causes the most discomfort with new trays (they are tight) but in 2 days that goes away and you are fine for the next 14-18ish days.  i wear a set of trays for 2.5 weeks at a time.  anywho i love them, email me at allisonpeck at yahoo if you want me to go on and on... lol... my ortho is dr. sally song in wayne if you're ever looking for someone.  she is awesome.
