Real Estate Intervention

Anyone watch this show?  I love it.  This guy takes sellers around to other listings and sold comps to give them a wake-up call when they are listed too high and wondering why they can't sell.  Every seller should be required to watch an episode of this before they list!  The guy is very blunt, it's a great show!

Last night was great, the "sellers" were criticizing the lower priced "comp" saying that the family room was very small.  The host was like, well how does this compare to your family room.  They were like "uh, we don't have one."  And he just walks away....classic!

I love that show! I love when they try and argue that their house is still worth more.

I loved these shows until I tried to buy a house.  THen I watched HGTV and would curse all the people for having their dream houses when I was waiting for my short sale to go through.  I still havent been able to watch in the 1.5 years I have had the house.  I may have to give this show a try because it seems like a good show.

I saw part of it last night. With the father/son sellers. But they were both such assholes_I had to turn it off.

I love that show! I love when he brings them to the comps and the sellers go "Oh this room is way small" and He goes um well its actually bigger than yours lol

Yeah, one episode, the people were trying to sell their home for what they paid for it in 2006 + upgrade money they spent.  It was a small box 2 bedroom place and they needed more room.  He brought them to place priced much lower, and they were like "our place is much nicer, all this has on our place is much more space."  They host was like "and why are u moving again...u need more   (space)??????  They just looked at one another in stupidity.

haha USER, I saw that one! These peeps are crazy, and they all hate the host. He is blunt but he speaks the truth!

Some people are still in dream world. Reality is that your house isn't worth what you think it is, especially in this economy. I like how honest he is and it seems he would like to actually help them, should they be willing to listen.

LOVE this show!! I don't know anyone else who watches it. FI hates all HGTV, lol.I actually think the guy is pretty diplomatic in his approach. He tries to get people to realize the truth on their own, I think. Only when people are totally in denial does he get a little more aggressive.I just saw one where the woman bought at the top of the market and had a negative am ARM mortgage. She was trying to break even, even though her loan had actually gone up (since she was paying LESS than interest only payments) and her house wasn't even close to worth the ORIGINAL mortgage amount. I ended up feeling a little bad for her though because she was pretty upset she was going to have to do a short sale or foreclose.

LOVE this show too - I always thought I was such a weirdo because all I watch is the DIY network and HGTV...DH absolutely despises these shows for some reason and says they're "stupid & boring" I think they're extremely informative and educational I want this guy to come to our house - we have it priced @ what the realtor told us to put it for but who knows if that's a good price or not - I should check into seeing how you get on the show

I'm hooked on that show and House Hunters. I used to love the house flipping shows too but don't see them on anymore.

I also like the show where people spend like 100K on a backyard, kitchen, or master bedroom, and they evaluate who will get the most back

Bang for your Buck user.  We watch them all.  I love House Hunters International too, where people will just pick up and move somewhere random.

i hate property virgins and many of these shows bc the "hosts" are not really even in the industry.  they are just TV personalities and their ignorance on topics shines through all the time.   never saw this show, but i'd give it a shot.  i love HGTV and any home, reno show.  mostly curb appeal, home-reno are my favorite.  and less "Reality" the better... i dont care about your staged drama or how you went $50k over and 2 months... give me a break.  i'd watch this old house for hours as a kid, and still can.  THAT is reality.

This Old House ahhh ditto Allie, I could watch that any day any time!

I love the show and I agree- sellers should all watch it, but it wouldn't matter bc just like on the show, they would find reasons why their house is "different" or worth more.Justkris- you can do what the guy does without being on the show... in fact, your realtor should have done that research and sat down with you before you decided on a listing price.  All he's doing is looking at nearby sold comps and active comps to figure out where your house fits in.  If your realtor didn't show you these, ask for them.
