Venue?

Hi - I have written a few posts on here today - but I am in a difficult situation! FI and I booked ABC for our wedding for next year - problem is that he is not happy at all and I am just OK with it. We looked everywhere and just couldn't find a better bang for the buck sorta thing. We looked at Ocean Cliff and Viking Hotel and really liked those kinds of venues but they are not really in our price range. We also took into consideration that we wanted a Aug/Sept 2012 wedding. Please help! Should we pull out of ABC? We have already booked our officiant(family friend) told many people, signed up for tasting dates, booked room blocks and are proofing save the dates!

If you both are not sold on the venue pull out and find a spot that you both love, it will be worth it!

I agree, if it were me and I wasnt completely sold on it then I would pull out of it because i would probably constantly think about it and that would drive me nuts! The venue search is hard but you should defintately able to find something you both love and is in your budget. Are you trying to specifically stay in Newport? Have you looked at anything outside of Newport? Glen Manor House is a great option not too far outside of that area.

thank you to both of you for your comments. I am just not sure what to do/where else we can look at this point. we really wanted to go somewhere in narragansett, but we looked at dunes club (membership or blood related to a member - talk about strict!) the towers were booked, we didn't like kinney, clubhouse is too small, I don't know where else. we looked at the glen too, but I really didn't like all the separate rooms and I know my parents would not have gone for that. If we could go somewhere in south county, that would be great. We aren't opposed to newport and/or middletown either (obviously) and providence is just a little far from the church for us as people will already be driving in from NJ and to make them go another almost hour up in the state is kinda tough...we don't love the venue so I feel like pulling out is the right thing I would just be worried we won't find anything else better or anything else we can agree on, with the price being right. it's a tough spot!

If you and your FI are not sold on the ABC than save yourself the stress and any future regrets and book another venue. I am not sure what your guest count is and if you are open to venues in Bristol which isn't too far from Newport/Middletown area.

Easton Beach Rotunda in Newport but you have to bring an outside caterer. This venue can hold up to 175 people.

The Regatta Place in Newport. Budget friendly sister of Oceancliff. 150 count capacity.

Linden Place in Bristol is a beautiful historical estate but again you have to bring an outside caterer.

Bristol Harbor Inn in well Bristol can hold 120 guests in the lovely Dewolf Tavern and 140 on the deck. No outside caterer needed.

Mount Hope Farm is also very nice although they are require you use their approved vendors and they do have strict rules regarding use of the facilities.

You might also want to check out the Hyatt and Marriot in Newport too. G.L

royal orient - thank you for the suggestions. we never really looked into easton's beach. regatta place was beautiful, but we didnt like the tent idea. we are so fearful of rain. we looked at linden place but the site fee was too high for us. bristol harbor wouldnt be big enough for our 150 guests. we never really looked at mount hope/marriott/hyatt. i guess we could look into those places. the problem is that i would look into other places - but now FI doesn't want to - even though he is the one who doesnt really like ABC. this whole thing has been a mess. we really wanted narragansett or westerly but there are just no good places! we are really at a loss, it's easier to just stay where we are and at this point we just feel like we will have to make the most of it. we have been together for 7 years and as bad as it sounds - we are ready for this to all be over and go back to normal! we are getting married really for our parents and friends...not us!

I would pull out, there is no point in second guessing your decision.  Have you considered jumping over to CT?  Mystic or Stonington have a few different venues and likely would be convenient for your guests.

A few that come to mind but the CT girls would be more help:  The Seaport (multiple possible rooms), wineries, Lake of Isles, Inn at Mystic.  I know there are more so if CT is an option post over on that board.  GL!

I would pull out if you are ok with losing the deposit. Have you considered non typical places like the university club at uri or the south county museum? I second eastons routines as well. The Marriott in Newport might be in your range. What exactly don't you like about abc? Is it anything that can be altered?

    hi i2012 do -
i know, that is the only thing, we would lose the deposit. its not an obscene amount of money and we didnt pay any site fee or anything, but still. i looked at the u club! it's a little too small however. FI wasn't crazy about the museum - we went to another wedding there. and I did hear about easton's from someone else. i think that marriott would be in our range but for our september wedding - the rooms would be so expensive to stay and i just cant do that with practically all out of town guests. there isnt really any thing wrong with abc, its just we really wanted narragansett and were bummed when nothing was available. we also dont like the chairs at abc. we really like the chivari chairs and are willing to rent them but they dont allow. i also dont like how you walk into the club the main entrance with all the diners, it seems weird to me. you are immediately escorted upstairs but still. we are going to rent linens to dress up the room and hopefully things will be OK. it is just not our dream location. its just OK. the thing that saves it is there is such a nice view out the big windows in the room. FI is not happy, but neither of us have the energy to look elsewhere. it will be OK.
