Are you good at getting up in the morning?

I am terrible at waking up! I snooze a minimum of 2-3 times before even considering getting out of bed. I've been working out before work for the past two months, so I have to wake up when it is dark out. I keep hoping that I get used to this, but I haven't. When I used to get up later I'd crack my shades so the natural sunlight would help me. Any tricks you use to wake up naturally in the morning?

It also doesn't matter what time I go to bed- so going to bed earlier really won't help.

I set my alarm for 4:50 and for 6:00 that I way I will feel that I am getting an extra hour of sleep. I've been doing this since second grade. It works for me.

Even when I do get up with plenty of time to spare, I putz around the house and then I'm like a mad man to get ready! I simply cannot get up, work out, get ready and get to work in a leisurely fashion. I don't even know what I do with my time. Before I know it I'm looking at the clock and racing to get dressed and out the door. I habitually show up RIGHT at the last second to work.

4:50! Oh man.... I guess I'm willing to try it.... I'd need to set my alarm for 4:15 though. DH may actually kill me.

I snooze a few times.  I don't need to get up until like 6:20 so I set my alarm for 5:30am and have it set to go off at 10 minute intervals.  This way, I don't need to jump up out of bed as soon as my alarm goes off.  Technically, it makes me lose an hour of sleep, but I like it better this way so I get to lay there for awhile before having to actually get up!

I'm the same way. Snooze, snooze, snooze. I could get up 45 minutes early and find something to do that would make me just on time - not on purpose. I'm sorry. I have no helpful words of encouragement. I think it's great that you're working out in the morning though!

I have an excellent internal alarm clock and I usually wake up about 5 minutes before my alarm to give me time to lie in bed. I can't remember the last time I hit snooze.

Jamie I'm the same way! If I'm dressed 10 minutes early I'll start emptying the dishwasher or something, and before I know it, I'm running out the door again!

I just get up when the alarm goes off. I've been told I get up too early though. I fart around though in the morning. I like to take my time getting ready. Drink my coffee, read the paper etc. I'm like an old lady. MH sleeps like a log. I use to be afraid to walk into his apartment when he was sleeping, because he always had the gun near him. When we were kids, I went & lit firecrackers in a metal pot in my sisters' room, because they would never get up for school.

yup 4:50. But it the alarm just goes off. Then the second alarm goes off at 6:00. And that's when I wake up. The 4:50 alarm is like a warning. you know... on the days I work on the alarm goes off at 4 and I'm up at 4. No ands if or buts about it.

I'm not a morning person at all. I have such a hard time getting up in the morning. I don't even bother with morning workouts because I know I will skip them.

The morning workout thing is just the past two months, before that I used to work out at night. The problem with nights for me, was there were too many reasons to skip them at night. I always had something going on. I like getting them done early in the day. With that said! Every single day it has been a battle of will to get my butt up to do it. I'm just waiting for that day I naturally wake up and feel ready to work out.

It will happen. It is not easy. I have skipped many of days. Do you set up everything for yourself the night before-breakfast,lunch, clothes etc? So that way getting out the door is alittle easier?

I set the alarm for 7 so FI can get up ... he's usually out the door by 7:45. I go back to sleep until 7:30 when the second alarm goes off, then I set it for 7:45. (I use my cell phone so I can set multiple alarms.)I try to get moving by then, but for the past two days I've really been sleeping later because I'm exhausted. I didn't get up until nearly 8:30 this morning. I can be in work whenever, as long as I put in an 8-hour day, so it doesn't matter what time I get there, but still. Sometimes the cat helps get me moving earlier, because I feed him in the morning and he's very good at reminding me when his bowl is empty ;)

This has been the problem of my life. At least you show up RIGHT on time, I am habitually 2-6 minutes late! It's obnoxious. Kindergarten I had 63 tardies...(obviously more my dad's fault than my own but STILL!)

I'm really good about it (on weekdays at least), but unless work keeps me up, I get 8 hours of sleep.  I'm really good about that.  And I don't have to wake up until 8, which really really helps (particularly because it is always light then).  If I have to wake up at 7:30 one day, it ruins my day.  That's too early for me.  And I'm sure that for most of you it is much, much worse. My husband wakes up much earlier than me and stays in bed forever, which bothers me because I'm the one who turns off the alarm and I worry if he falls back asleep.  But I'm way too light a sleeper to let him be in charge of his alarm -- he'd let it go off forever and I'd never get back to sleep!

tif we have a lot in common!  I literally get up like an hour and a half before i need to. When i was working out in the AM i would literally set my alarm to 4am and wouldnt get out of bed until about 4:45/5am...and still by the time i got it together i would be going out the door around 5:30/6..umm hello brush teeth put on sweats...go.  Not for me.For the past 3 months or so though i have set my alarm for about 7am and i actually just get up but then i go lay on the couch turn on the news, get online, read....the next thing i know its 8:15 or 8:30am and now i am ready with like 5 mins to spare.

I've been known to set the alarm at 5 am and not get up until 6am. And when I say "I've been known" for that, I mean I do it every day. Yeah, MH pretty much wants to kick me out of bed in the morning.

I set 3 alarms, 15 minute intervals from 7:15 to 7:45. If I showered the night before, I can get up at 7:30. If I showered the night before and made my lunch before bed, I can get up at 7:45. If I've done neither, then 7:15 it is. I am a cranky biotch with less than 8 hours of sleep, but usually I need 8.5-9 to function at my best. DH wakes up at 4:45 and leaves by 5:35 most days. He has to be at work by 6 though. He wakes me up - or more often the dog barking to be let out of her crate - probably 3 days a week and it takes me FOR.EV.ER to fall back asleep so I am a cranky biotch on those days until I get to work and drink my coffee.

I have a horrible waking up pattern first alarm goes off at 630 then 730 750 8 805 810 and 815 if I really push it. I'm actually supposed to be at work at 830, but I've been going into to work at 9 915 so long everyone thinks that what time I'm supposed to be at work.
  • edited December 2011
I also have my commute timed. I know if I leave at 8:42 and go a certain way and am lucky enough to hit lights x, y, and z I will pull in at 9AM exactly. I get mad if I get stuck behind someone slow. I try to get out the door by 8:38 but this doesn't happen often. If I take the dog to doggie day care, I have to leave by 8:15 to have a fighting chance of making it on time, which means I have to get up at 7:15 no matter what.
