Beach/Rental House Wedding

I think we are going to change directions once again and scale down on our guest list too.  It's all somewhat overwhelming but after much looking at venues in Charlotte, NC, Beaufort, SC and on Fripp Island, SC. I think we have decided to have a wedding on the beach on Fripp and rent a house for us and possibly my sister's family too.  I think we will be inviting about 40 people but don't expect them all to travel to the lowcountry.  I liked some options in Beaufort as well but 2k for the venue and then having to bring in everything was adding up quickly.

Has anyone else planned a wedding at a rental house?

Re: Beach/Rental House Wedding

  • I got married in an event home in the Outer Banks of NC.  I don't know about Fripp Island but in the OBX we had to pay an extra "event fee" on top of the rental rate.  We had 45 guests and the home only slept 22, hence we had to pay the fee.   Some homes also did not allow events.  I would suggest contacting rental companies and seeing if they have event homes and seeing if there are extra fees on top of the rental rate.  It was still cheaper for us to go this route so hope it works out for you as well.  We also got married in the "off season" to save money that way.  April/May and September/October are beautiful months in the Carolinas and considered off season (at least in the OBX).

We are considering the last weekend in March or early April.  The only problem I'm running into is it's Spring Break and most people only want to rent from Sat to Sat.  That doesn't work very well for a wedding.  We hoping to get the house from a Thursday to Monday since it's not peak season.  We are still looking and trying to decide.
  • Yea Sat-Sat and Sun-Sun is the most popular no matter the time of the year.  Partial week rentals are really hard to come by.  We had a Sun-Sun house and got married on a Tuesday so we could have the rest of the week to relax and chill with family and friends. One thing I would not recommend is having the wedding the night before you leave.

  • Yeah that's not going to happen.  I can't imagine having to clean up and check out the next day.  Still waiting on estimates from people so we can make our decision.  I just wnat to get something booked.
