Re: QOTD 7/24 - Take 2

  • Well I'm a teacher, so I get all summer. But I also get 10 sick days each year to use. I don't use them each year because I save them up. Right now I have 25, which will be nice when we have a baby...

  • I get about 9 hours every pay period and we can save them up until 500 hours.  I had accumulated 330, but am in the process of using 120 of them since I had my tonsils out and took two weeks, and had extra vacation time for FI and I to go away to two weddings in one weekend!

I was concerned because I will be down under two hundred hours after the wedding and then I was thinking that that is silly and I'll build them back up again.
  • I get 20 days a year of PTO, so that includes vacation and sick time.  I currently have enough for the month off for the wedding and probably a few days to head back to IA for Christmas (I keep an excel sheet for my PTO through the whole year!).  Our company was aquired last year though, so when that shifts over, I think my vacation time will be cut but I'll get unlimited sick time, which it is my understanding that there is no questions asked unless it gets past that same range as what I currently have.

  • When i worked as a guidance counselor in a school, i would get up to 3 personal days a year, max of 5 so they would roll into sick days. I would also get so many sick days, maybe 10 every year and they would just roll over which was good if you went on maternity leave bc you had to use those.
Right now since im just working per hour at an office i dont get sick/personal/vaction time, if i take off i dont get paid=(

  • I get 10 working days of vacation every year and 5 working days of sick time.  We get 8.5 holidays per year.  I'm in the process of saving all of my vacation time for the HM; I will have 0 hours left when I get back, which I'm dreading.  I see some sick (ie mental health) days in the future after that.

The hours roll-over year to year and there is no limit (that I'm aware of) for how much time you can have saved up at once.  If you leave you get paid out for your sick and vacation time.

Holy crap mbuckley! That's a lot of time off I would be thrilled if I had 200 hours of time - that's 5 weeks off!
  • I get 4 weeks, but don't typically take it all.

  • I get 4 weeks, and can opt to purchase a 5th. If you dont use it, you can sell it back to the company at the end of the year. I typically DONT use all of it, but will this year!
  • I'm a Ph.D. student, so technically we get 10 working days of vacation + 5 university holidays per year + a "resonable amount" of sick time (whatever that means).

My advisor is pretty cool about taking time off.  As long as I get my work done, he doesn't really count the number of days that I take off.

<div>Haha...I've never been one to take a ton of vacation time, so I get it faster than I use it.  I guess its a trade off because with my schedule I work every other weekend and 4/8 holidays a year.  Hospitals don't close ;-)</div><div>
</div><div>I also get 6 sick days per year (not calendar year, they are rolling, so if I use one today, I get that one back next year on this day).  </div>
  • I get 12 hours a month. PTO and sick days are all rolled into one. It increases on your third anniversary. And then again later. It also rolls over year to year. I'm using a good chunk of it for the wedding and hm but will have some left for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then I'll be building it up again to hopefully move into a house next spring!
  • I get 3 weeks vacation, 1 week of sick time, and 3 optional holidays.  My sick time pays out at the end of the year if I don't use it, which is awesome!

  • I work for Head Start and we are closed over the summer, so I work 9.5 months a year.  We get personal time in February. I get about 2 days.  We accrue sick and annual time off about 3 hours of each every pay period which is by monthly.  We are only allowed to use the annual time when the center is closed due to snow days or vacations.   So for the wedding I plan on taking 2 days before and one day following.  So I will not be getting paid for the day following the wedding.  It sucks.

  • I don't know how much it adds up to per year, but I accrue about 9 hours per each 2 week pay period. Sick, personal and vacation time all comes out of the same pool. I have about 2 weeks of time stored up right now. I don't usually use all of it, but I'm using more than usual this year for the wedding and honeymoon. Plus, you have the option of exchanging extra hours for cash, so I've done that a couple times to put extra money in the wedding fund!

  • I am a teacher, we get 3 personal days, and I'm not sure about the sick days.  We get about 2 months off in the summer.

  • I get 4.62 hours per pay period. I've only been getting that since April 1st and I've taken 7 hours thus far for a sick day. The rest I'm saving up for the wedding/honeymoon. I don't usually just take days off but with my job sometimes they make up go home and stuff so the PTO will be good for those times. I'm actually taking 2 days this week but I requested them before I was eligible for my PTO so I'm taking them unpaid...I guess I could take the PTO now but I don't want to use it all and not have enough for the wedding! Maybe I'll see if I can use like a couple hours each day so that my check won't be too big of a hit!

  • I get 10 working days amd 3 paid sick days. They don't roll over so we have to use them before the end of the year. I typically use them in the spring and fall for final exams. Being paid to study makes finals a little bit more tolerable. I am using 3 days for the wedding and I used one in June. So still have 6 days left and 3 paid sick days.

  • I get somewhere around 7.3 hours of PTO per pay period. I broke my ankle lastvyear, so I'm down to 40. This is for vacations, sick days, etc. Right now, I get 2 vacations a year. My only problem is that if our patient census is down, we end up getting called off, and that uses up PTO.

  • I work at the police department for my city- we get 1 sick day a month (which accumulate for as long as we let them), then depending on time on, so many hours per year for vacation (I have been here 4 years, get 13 vacation days. It goes up at 5 years, 10 years, and 15 years), plus "h-days" (we must work any holiday we are scheduled, but get a day off we can put wherever we'd like), a "free" day, and an "education day" each year.

  • I get 10 vacation days per year and 1 sick per month both get rolled over.  Then we get 4 personal which if you don't use gets rolled over to sick and 12 holidays.

  • Ugh I am so envious of all of you! I get 80 hours (10 working days) during my first year.  It won't increase to 120 hours until March of 2013 :( It seems so far away!

I have been very careful about how many/what days I take off, as I have 1 and 1/2 days before the wedding, and a week for our honeymoon after the wedding.  Adding that time to time I have already taken will leave me with 1 day until the New Year! Yikes, that is a scary thoguht :-\

Fortunately my company is very flexible though, kso when I need time off for the doctor, or I need to leave early, I can usually just make it up throughout the week!

  • I get 4 weeks vacation time. 72 hours of holiday time and we accrue about 9 hours a sick time a month I have over 220 at this point. But my job in in the process of being bought out so we are pretty much going to lose all of it besides the vacation time and switch to a PTO system.

  • OMG - be greatful for what you have ladies!  My previous job we got 80 hours PTO plus paid holidays.  I was laid off and the company went under.  My current job (5 years now), we had 2 weeks vacation, no holidays and no sick time.  That was cut down to 1 week as of last December.  I'm in the hotel industry, a private company though, we are open 7 days a week and every holiday.  Frown

  • I currently get 3 weeks of vacation time, 7 days of personal time and I believe 5 days of sick time. I usually plan my time so I use all the vacation and personal, I try to take the sick time also but that doesn't always happen.
It doesn't have to be perfect to be everything I want!

  • I work on a school system schedule, since I'm a school psychologist. Every calendar year, I get 12 sick days and 5 personal days. The sick days accumulate, and whatever days I choose to go into a sick bank (for extended illnesses) are taken from my personal days, when then roll over into sick days. I try to save as many as I can, especially this year to get ready to blow them on my wedding/honeymoon. I'll have 22.5 days saved, and will take 8 for the wedding, so I have a good cushion left. Then, time to save days for a baby somewhere down the line!

FI is a stinker when it comes to vacation days. His contract specifies he can have as much time as he needs with "reasonable cause" and as long as he's caught up on work.
  • Just starting a  new job in Ultrasound and get 17 PTO days.. ehhh.

  • I get 6 hours of vacation per pay period (every 2 weeks) and 4 hours of sick leave every pay period. Our leave carries over every year as long as we dont reach the max of 240, then it becomes use or lose time. This year I had 40 hours that would turn to lose time at the end of the year so I have been taking some time off. I will take some time around the wedding but since we arent going on a honeymoon til next year I might be just under my 240 this year so next year I will have 240 I will have to use or lose. We also have a leave bank at work for those who have a long term illness that need additional leave that I will probably donate a good chunk of my leave to.

I do realize I have it good leave wise, my MOH works for a company that does not give her any holiday's off, she gets no paid leave, and she actually had to put in the request to take my wedding off back in February or else she wasnt going to get the day off, but again she doesnt get paid to take that day off. Also they are open 7 days so she has to work every weekend both Saturday and Sunday.

  • I am legally entitled to two weeks off.
I tend to use all of it and a little more :/
  • 4 weeks - not allowed to roll any over.
  • We just bought a bakery so I think it will be a while before I see any time off!
