Just Engaged and Proposals

Can anticipation kill me?

I am so excited that I can barely contain myself.

My boyfriend and I have been discussing marriage since September, but he had been having trouble with his job, and wanted a more stable situation before we made this huge step.  He got a great new job around Christmas.

Things have moved so quickly since then, and I am 99.9999% sure he's going to propose this weekend.  The fact that my parents (who love him) are very supportive of my suspicion helps!  ... Two weeks ago he decided we'd be going away together for the weekend (this weekend), and his demeanor is really telling. I'm also pretty sure he picked up something special from a specific store last Thursday night after work.  It's all adding up.

I am so excited I could scream!  I can't handle the anticipation!  We leave at 4pm tomorrow...

:)  I just hope I don't have a nervous breakdown from the anticipation!

Re: Can anticipation kill me?

  • I know the feeling! I know (I over heard a phone conversation with my Dad and my bf) that my ring is being made. And the person making my ring pulled up to my house as I was driving away this weekend. So Im def thinking that my proposal is comming really soon too. It has been all I can think about. I am so excited to scream to the world I get to marry this amazing guy!!!!!!! I don't think that the anticipation can actually kill though, just make the time drag by so slowly. Congrats and I can't wait to hear your proposal story!
  • Relax, everything will be fine.  Just don't get your hopes up that something IS going to happen this weekend, because if it doesn't, that would make you really sad.

Instead, concentrate on the fact that you have found your life partner, and that at some point, you will get married.

    Breathe in and out!
  • Yes, and I say that because it's killing me too. My bf and I have been talking about it for over a year. He hated his commision job and starts a new, great one on monday and he said "finally I can feel great about getting engaged!" So i'm sure it'll happen when he settles into his position. It's an exciting time. Funny how guys think we dont notice things or catch on to what they're doing. They're not nearly as sneaky as they think! Good luck this weekend! Im sure you have crazy butterflies!
  • Haha, I completely agree with everyone. Definitely breathe and just enjoy that you DO know that you have found someone amazing. My boyfriend and I have been together 3 years and have talked about getting engaged for months. Over Thanksgiving he alluded to proposing sometime in the very near future. Of course, I thought that meant over the Christmas holidays so every date night we had and when we celebrated our 3 year anniversary, I expected the proposal- but the holidays came and went and I wound up being disappointed after each date. DON'T DO THAT!

I know he knows when it's happening so I just have to relax and enjoy the "pre-proposal anticipation." My birthday is coming up in 2 weeks and he is taking me to Savannah for the weekend (it's the day before Valentine's day) so we shall see...not getting my hopes up though! He will do it when he wants to! :)
    Congrats on the upcoming surprise!
  • hahaha i spent the last 2 years we dated being disappointed at every single holiday or vacation. i agree with the people who say not to get your hopes up TOO much so that you won't be too upset if it doesn't happen. good luck! come back and tell us if he proposes!
  • Like a few others mentioned, I too was so sure for a while too and was constantly disappointed for months until he finally popped the question. I even knew that he had the ring because we had gone to the jeweler together. I hope you are right, but try to psych yourself out because if he does propose and finds out that you figured it out he may feel really silly!

    Good luck!
  • So did you end up getting engaged this weekend? I DID! :-)
  • Just breath! It's an exciting time but he might still want to "surprise" you anyway. Congrats!
