  A few things:
  
  1) Probably not a great idea as your first post.  I'm pretty sure this is considered solicitation and breaking TK rules.
  
  2) Even if it's not breaking the rules, our "For Sale" day is Wednesday.
  
  3) The bolded part sounds like a terrible idea.

  Well, my intention was definitely not to break any rules or ruffle any feathers.  It's just that me and my FI are in a bit of a bind and the clock is ticking as I am sure you all know.  But, if it works best to only post this on Wednesdays (For Sale Day) that is not a problem.  I had seen similar posts that are also along the lines of a bartering proposal as opposed to just strictly solicitation since I don't represent a company.  Again, if there were a classifieds board for Metro Detroiters only I would post it there.  Also, if it works more smoothly to post it bi-monthly then I could do that as well.  I thought I was doing the right thing by trying to alert folks who may have wanted to disregard this by making the purpose of the post quite clear in the title.  But thanks to all for the heads up.

  I read the "New Here, Read Me First!" post at the top of the page as you and others suggested and it does not mention that Wednesday is For Sale Day.  Also, it says Vendors are not allowed.  But I am not a vendor in the wedding planning sense of the word who wants to sell their goods or services for business purposes but a bride representing a couple who wants to make an exchange with another couple.  Perhaps the "New Here, Read Me First!" post should be updated?

  We need to keep it confidential until we have located a viable exchange opportunity.  But I can tell you that it is in an exclusive area of Metro Detroit where mansions and millionaires are the norm and beautiful landscaping is everywhere.  We chose it originally because it is so tucked away and gorgeous.  Hope this helps.

  I can be more specific at a more person to person level like when someone emails and we can exchange numbers and talk over the phone or something similar.  I know how viral things can get over the internet.  And we want to be able to keep the upper hand with the venue.

  I agree with Corinne, if you want people to contact you, information up front would be the best. You don't have to divulge all of the details, but the location where the venue is located would be helpful. It also seems fishy about the deposit. Has your venue approved of this "switch" if it were possible? I would check there before even trying to offer up the date.

  Thanks for the advice.  I had no intentions of doing a daily thread though.  I was thinking of a weekly or bi-monthly post on the For Sale day here.  I can see why it may seem fishy.  But it's also sort of a catch-22 for us because it doesn't say in our venue contract that we cannot do a substitution.  But we don't want the venue to know that we're on the fence in case we don't find anyone and have to keep the reservation.  You see the quandary we're in?  The only other thing I can put is that it's in Oakland County.  That's the closest I can get to naming the area without it being too obvious.

  I don't see how your venue would care if you were being wishy-washy.  I'm sure this happens a lot with wedding venues which is why they require the deposit.  If you end up cancelling the contract, they get their deposit (regardless of the issue of finding a replacement.)  If you keep the contract, you have your event there and they get money.  Either way, they get paid.
  
  It seems like you are making a bigger deal out of this than it needs to be.  I agree with the other ladies that it seems sketchy even if that is not your intention.  I would be as up front as possible about the details of the venue because it makes a better sales pitch.
  
  I am not very inclined to e-mail a stranger about a possible venue without knowing the details first.  But if I knew you were "selling" a date at XYZ location and I was already looking at XYZ location, I would most likely contact you, ya know what I mean?

  First off, Congrats on your engagement and starting the planning process.  I know things can get stressful at times when you are trying to figure things out.
  
  I agree with other posters on this being sketchy.  Personally if I was stil looking for a reception venue and saw this offer I would not contaact you unless I knew more details and knew that this would even work with the venue.  I know you said that you don't want to say where the place is, but give details like per plate price and what all is included.
