Outdoor Rain Plan for Backyard wedding????

How does this work. I want to get married at my FI's Parents house. they ahve a huge front yard acctually and it is out on a gourgious country road in teh middle of no where. SO what do I do if it rains?

I think there is a Country club about 30min away but would'nt I have to put a deposit down and then lose it if I don't use the venue. And I would guess that I would still have to make up my mind weather to use the country Club at least a month in advance. There is no way I will know whta the weather will be like A MONTH IN ADVANCE. DO peopel just chance it with these kind of things? I planed to rent a tent but is that enough to keep the rain out on a grassy yard? Has anyone done this?

  • How about renting an outdoor tent......this ensures you are safe....rain or shine.
  • I do think you would have to put a deposit down for the country club, which makes it a less feasible backup plan.  If you get a large enough tent, and put it up in advance (to avoid muddy ground) it would definitely be a fine backup plan.

  • You can usually have a tent put up 3 days in advance to allow for set-up time and making sure that it is dry underneath.  Are you planning on having the reception at the house as well?  You will definitely want a tent in that case.

I did a tented reception and there are details on the planning page in my bio.  There are a lot of considerations.  DH's Aunt was also a backyard wedding with the ceremony supposed to be on the lawn but unfortunately it rained and they performed the ceremony under the tent.  It actually worked out just fine with people sitting at their assigned tables like normal.  They had their ceremony on the dance floor in the middle.

Good luck - if you have any more questions please let us know!
  • Hi!  I am having an outdoor ceremony, so I will be renting a tent -just in case the weather doesn't cooperate.  I wanted to ask where you rented your tent?

When I was looking for a tent I just Googled "party rental near [town where wedding was held]."
  • We're getting married in my parents' backyard and are praying for sun.  We're renting a 10 by 20 foot tent in case it rains.  We'll probbly use it all weekend long for various wedding meals, etc.  I'd rather have it and NOT need it than need it and not have it.
