Black BM dresses

I'm thinking I want my girls to be in black BM dresses, but I'm worried that it might be too much black and then me in my white dress. Has anyone done this or is anyone doing it? I know that our flowers (which are eggplant purple, lime green and white) will give the pop of colour to the girls, but does anyone have any photos to share? TIA

Re: Black BM dresses

  • There are a lot of brides that are doing this or have done this. I think it is a great idea. We did colored BM's dresses, but black would have worked well, too.

What about doing a colored sash or something to bring out some of your colors? Or if the bouquet is really colorful, I think they will look very classy and nice.
  • My BMs wore black dresses with green sashes. MH and the groomsmen wore black vests with green ties. It looked great IMO.

  • I'm doing black bridesmaid dresses also- I think it looks classy!   Might add a bright color shoe to accent.   No one has a problem wearing a black dress :)  Plus, I think it makes your white gown look sharper in contrast.

  • I am MOH in a wedding this coming Feb and our dresses are black white the bride is wearing white. I think it looks fine and like the others suggested, you can add sashes for color, like mbc did or even just from your flowers and maybe the shoes your girls will wear.

  • Black BM dresses give a very formal, elegant feeling to the event. If that's the idea you're going for, do it. My sister-in-law did it and everyone looked really classy. Only possible negative: if you have BMs with extremely fair skin it could make them look ghostly.
  • I'm probably doing black for my girls, and I agree with everyone else saying it's classy!  Any accesories/flowers/shoes/decor is going to look great with it!
  • I think it looks snazzy! I'm probably doing gray dresses, same concept. Red shoes and accents. :)
Disclaimer: Please excuse the above comment. I'm probably freaking out because there is less than one month to go. Thank you.

  • I'm doing it too!  No sashes, though, but it has a one-shoulder strap.  My colors are black, white and silver.  Their flowers will be white, with black and winter accents. :)

    It's not uncommon anymore.

  • It can be done well, so as long as there's some color/ sash, nice bouquet, etc, then it looks very formal and nice

  • Telling my girls to wear any black dress of their choosing was probably one of the best decisions I made about the wedding.  They looked great, they were all able to stay within their own budget, and it completely eliminated a major potential source of drama.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • My BM"s are wearing black dressing with watermelon sashes and the flowers are white and pink.. It looks very elegant and fights for a january wedding.

  • My BMs are wearing black. Try it with a white sash, maybe try yours with a black accent. A flower or sach or small pin might help to tie the look together.

For my friend's wedding we are wearing black dresses.  I think black is so classy - and you could definitely brighten it up with some bold flowers!

This is what we are wearing and adding on a brooch for some sparkle :)

  • Thanks girls! We're going BM dress shopping in a few weeks, so maybe we can chat about a sash. My colours are eggplant purple and lime green, so the bouquets will have those two colours and white, which should pop. I'll talk to DF about getting the boys in some coloured ties or such too. Thanks!
