FL/Photography Timeline...

Hi Ladies!

I am trying to figure out when I should schedule a hair and makeup appointment for the day of, so I emailed my photographer and asked him what he thought.

We are doing a FL and want to get all of the pictures out of the way before our cocktail hour!  He said we should at least plan 2-3 hours.  But, that just doesn't seem like enough time to me.  Am I being a complete spaz or does anyone else have the same advice?

I was planning on getting ready at my Aunt's who lives about 10 minutes from the hall and I just remembered she has a cat, which I am deathly allergic too! So, definetely not getting ready there anymore :)  So, now we have to include travel time to some place and I was looking at our ceremony space which is outdoors, and I don't know if it's pretty enough to do a FL...I am planning on decorating the gazebo of course, but I guess I just wanted some input.  I have been looking at all types of FL pictures, and they are all so pretty, but I feel like every angle we could get at our hall, one would be towards a parking lot, and the other there is a house in the background.  So...what do you think?!

Here are some pictures of our space...

Maybe if I get some sheer white fabric to cover the poles up with on the gazebo, the home wouldn't be so noticeable...what do you all think?

Re: FL/Photography Timeline...

  • I think your place is beautiful! Your pictures are going to look amazing!! For my SIL's wedding we did the pictures between the ceremony and cocktail hour.. and for all of the pictures it took about 25-30 minutes.. which I was completely surprised about. I think 2 hours is plenty of time for the FL

  • Very beautiful area!  We are doing a First Look as well, doing it before the ceremony.  Our Photographer suggested 3 hours before the ceremony.  Our ceremony starts at 4pm, so we are arriving at the Venue around 12:30-1pm.  I found a lady back in my hometown who is going to travel to the city i'm getting married in and going to do our hair at our hotel room, probably start around 8 or 9am.   I originally was planning on going to a Salon/Day Spa near our hotel, but I discovered a couple weeks ago that the place is definitely not for me.  I went in with my MOH to get our hair done and meet the ladies, it turned out they were real snobby and not someone I wanted to rely on.  It was super expensive too.   Still need to figure out our makeup now, but we have an idea what we are going to do.

  • 2-3 hours should be more than enough time for FL. We're planning 1.5 hours for all our photos between the ceremony and reception, which we know is kind of pushing it, but we decided it isn't a bad thing to arrive fashionably late to our reception either.

  • Husker is that 3 hours for all of your pictures or just your FL?
