  MilitarybyOwner.com?  I love that site!  I currently browse the areas where FI might get stationed next summer to see what the BAH for each area will allow us to afford (conservatively - we're hoping to pay rent & all monthly bills with the BAH).  I'm pretty excited!

  Yes. We drove by the places first, checked the sorrounding areas then we set up meetings with realtors/owners. It's also best to check the area out at night. Base housing tell people the same thing.

  How early can you get there by? Your H can take "househunting leave" if he needs to. We got here just a few days before Brandon checked back into the command and we stayed at the Navy Lodge while we were looking and waiting for the processing of our lease. I think it took us about a week and a half since we found the place right away.

  Haha.. I'm sorry, but yes! I used the AHRN and Militarybyowner.com.  We found the apartment through AHRN, and then H realized that it's the same place the his BFF lives. So far though.. I'm pretty perturbed with the place.

  So we decided to rent off base. Last minute. Ha. I think I might fly down Saturday and check out places Monday. I wish I didn't have to and we could do it from afar.

  Hike get a list of places you want to check out and make appointments. Read reviews, etc. I only had a weekend to find a place down here but I had eliminated a lot of places from research.
