Centerpiece guidelines for long tables (guests on both sides)

Hi Ladies.  New to these boards, and they are so helpful!

I've decided to set up our wedding reception with long tables (set up in a sort of horseshoe).  We have only about 40 guests, and by using 6 tables we can get everyone in, as long as we seat people along both sides (so, along the inside of the U also).  I saw this recently at a rehearsal dinner, and there was definiely sufficient space inside the U for people to get in and out.

My only question is about the flowers.  For 10-top rounds, I've seen enough to know exactly how it would look.  But I'm not sure how large/small the centerpieces should be for this long-horseshoe set up.  My florist recommends much smaller vases (4-6 inches in circumference), and about 3-4 per table...  this would be one centerpiece in front of each guest, basically.  Can I cut this, or is that about right??

If anyone has photos, I'd love to see them!!

Nancy
