Event Planner

Getting married in Mauii, I have a max of 50 people going. Do I need a wedding planner to plan my wedding?

Welcome!   It depends on where you want to be married, and how much work you can / want to take on yourself.  Some of the more popular venues require a coordinator with insurance coverage, especially over a certain number of guests.  Others do not.  Check with your venues about their policies.

Aside from that, even if you do all of the research and planning on your own, it's just really nice to have someone else worry about the timeline or the wind (our cocktail tables blew over, shattering the flower vases) or checking to be sure most guests have arrived before you start, etc.

We didn't have one for 31, so I think it's totally doable without. But, I kinda do this for a living (mount productions, I mean), so if organization and attention to details isn't your thing and you're not comfortable troubleshooting and maintaining the schedule yourself, then a planner can be really helpful.

Welcome to the board!  You'll love it here.  :)

I initially wanted to "do it all" myself...I actually went through the pre-planning process without a planner, so when we did hire one, most of the "work" (i.e. booking vendors) was almost done.

I think when a planner comes in handy is the day-of.  It was so nice not to have to worry about keeping on time and being directed where to go and what to do.  I was conscious of the timeline, but not worried and could just be "in the moment".  Plus, I didn't have a large bridal party or too many folks who could assist with the wedding, so the coordinator "filled in the blanks".  She basically acted as a "director" of the show!

If you're organized and good at planning and production, you don't have to hire a full planner, but just go with a day-of coordinator.  That allows you the freedom to do all the planning yourself, filling someone in on your plans just before the event, and then letting them take over on the day-of.  That was the best arrangement for us!  Hope this helps!  :)

I don't have much to add as everyone has provided great advice...several factors to consider is dependant on your venue...beach or resto vs. private estate, how involved you would like to be...how familiar you are with Maui...how organized you are...and if you will have help on the day of from either family and/or friends. HTH! J. :-)

Thank you for everyones advice.  I just came from Maui to check on locations and I'm very excited that I found a private estate to get married. I would love to take care of my wedding arrangementd, but finding the right price from vendors it would be easiest  to contract comeone to find the right vendor.
