anyone cut off or cut down train size? suggestions...

Has anyone cut off or diminished the size of their train? I have a semi cathedral train and am having an outdoor wedding. I'm considering cutting it to a small sweep train. Thoughts suggestions? I'm not a big fan of the bussle, although I'll see what the seamstress can suggest.
dress is haiti by pronovias.

  • I just mentioned this in another thread but yes, we've cut off trains on dresses often. Not for weddings but because my daughter was a member of a fraternal organization, as a teenager, that often wore formal gowns to functions.  We would simply cut the hem off and have a simple hem put in.  Especially if you don't have any trim, it is very easy.  If you look at "destination" wedding gowns, they often don't have any train or only a sweep train.

I have the same dress and I am thinking of cutting the train off of mine as well! Our wedding is outdoors as well and I don't like the idea of the train dragging on the ground and I am not a big fan of trains. My wedding is not until June 2011 so I can't help you with how it will look though.
  • I'm thinking of cutting mine off.  I'm doing an outdoor DW, so it would probably be bustled the whole time.  I have a pic in my bio of another knottie from a few years ago that did a trainectomy on her dress, I loved it.
  • I hate bustles, too, and I'm having an outdoor wedding. My train was about the same length as yours, and I just wacked the whole train off and it looked great. I think a sweep train would be beautiful with your dress, but consider your venue first. My seamstress also suggested to me to have a bracelet-like thing attatched to the dress, and when the ceremony was over, I'd put the "bracelet" on, and I'd be holding the dress up without a bustle. If your dress isn't very heavy, that could also be a great option.

    Reils,
I'll post pictures when I've decided what to do, help you decide. Great choice ;) But the train is HUGE! I found a picture of a dress by Pronovias sister company (La Sp

osa) and they have a dress called Faro, quite simmilar, and much shorter train. I might ask the seamstress to go that direction.
