XP: birth certificate

Just wanted to share something else helpful (I'm on a roll!) that when I ordered a copy of my birth certificate to replace one which has deteriorated over time and several out of state moves, going to the vital records office in the state where I was born took me to a third party site which wanted $40 to order a copy of my birth certificate.  Going directly to the recorder in the county will only cost $14 by mail.  Now I get to spend $26 on something else :-)
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

  • In GA, you can get a copy of your BC at any coutny vital records in the state, so long as you were born in GA. I think I'm the only GA bride on here but maybe some other states have that as well?

Ordering birth certificates isn't so easy around here. Apparently there was a lot of corruption in our county, so all the certificates issued from like 1950-2000 were considered compromised. You couldn't use them for anything. If you needed a birth certificate for any type of proof, you had to go into the county building and bring in like 75 proof of ID to get a new one issued. Of course, this happened right after 9/11, so everything got more secure. Ugh
