Cake and Flowers

Hi everyone!

My Fiancé and I are getting married this august at Kinney Bungalow.  One of our biggest obstacles has been we are from Westchester, NY and don’t know a lot of local vendors.  Does anyone have any recommendations for cakes and florists?  Our caterer recommended Cappucino's in Middletown, Sin Wicked in Providence and also Sweet Sophistications in Bristol for cakes.  I’ve contacted Weed weavers for flowers, but would like to hear recommendations, reviews.   Thanks everyone,

Christine

Hello and congrats!  For more cake recs, try Creative Cake Company in Newport, R.I and if you are open to cupcakes, Tip-C cupcakes in North Providence makes liquor flavored cupcakes and other delicious sweets. I also second Sin Wicked Cakes in Providence. As for flowers, try Florals by Alisa in East Greenwhich, Blooming Blossoms and Studio 539 in Providence. Toni Chandler in Newport is also amazing.  All of these vendors will work within your budget. I've heard great things from Weedweavers too.

HI Christine, I am orginally from Westchester too!- (getting married in Newport in April)
I went w/ Cakes by Rhonda- but she only makes dummy cakes, b/c her cake is SO good and moist that it can't hold being stacked.
I wasnt' a fan of Sin. I felt like the tasting that we had they were too dry and I kept going back for water.
I am looking into Tiff's Wicked Cakes for a Grooms cake. I will get back to you on Saturday after my tasting.
All of the bakers off Aquidneck Island charge pretty much the same travel fee as those on the island and their prices seem to be a bit lower, so you aren't forced to go with a certain baker on Aquidneck Island.

For my flowers I am going w/ Golden Gate Studios.
A LOT of great reviews everywhere up here for them - and their work does stand out from the rest. (they proved it at the last bridal expo at the convention center).

Happy Planning- let us know if you need any other help.

We ordered our cake from It's My Party in Newport. The owner Amanda is really nice, does amazing work and is the most reasonably priced baker I have found. She charges $3.5 a slice and doesnt charge you for ever little thing like most bakers do.

For flowers we hired Janice from Sprigs on Main Street in East Greenwich. She is awsome and will work with your budget to create an amazing wedding theme.

I agree with Golden Gate for flowers! Jay is great. He will also work w/ a budget, you just need to make sure if you meet with him that you tell him your budget outright becuase he will just run with it if you don't.

For your cake I would recommend contacting Tiffany at Tiff's Wicked Cakes. She does a beautiful job and the cake is delicious. As far as for flowers, I ended up getting my flowers from Judy's Village Flowers in MA. She was so reasonable, and her work is like nothing you have ever seen!

I am getting married at the Towers near by and am trying to use local area vendors (to save on delivery charges).

I'm also looking to weed weavers and as someone else mentioned Florals by Alisa (the lease expensive quote I have receieved yet is from them). I also have heard great reviews on Flower Thyme.

I am not sure yet on the cake. I agree that It's my party in Newport has the best prices I have seen on cakes. If you caterer recommended Cappucinos they might get you a deal on the cake/not charge delivery.

I'm also looking into Sin- because I'm a faithful follower on FB and she does some great work...

I liked Scrumptions cakes but they were so expensive- espcially for the design I wanted( I can't warrant paying $900 for a wedding cake!) They are in EG

The woman who runs the Towers recommended Toria Dolce to me as well.

We loved Sin for our cake (chocolate cake with raspberry ganache alternating with champagne cake with strawberry filling).  Absolutely decadent!!

We used Golden Gate flower and were  very pleased, too.

There's also Confectionary designs by Chef.Soliday he's wicked nice and amazing with his technique. I'm not sure about his prices but I've seen his work at some bridal shows.
I would stay a way from Scrumptions I've had there cakes before there okay, but I've heard from a couple of different sources that they have a tendencyUndecided to jack up the price right before the cake is due because of "unforeseen costs".  If you do go with them just make sure you get a confirmed contract..
Golden Gate is AMAZING for flowers. He's fantastic and works great with all budgets.
