MIL gifts

I am trying to figure out what to get my FMIL for our wedding. She is an absolute saint and we've become close so I want to get her something special. Any ideas? She's not too big on jewelry which is a majority of what I've seen while looking around. Things Remembered has nice water globes that I'm considering but just trying to find other ideas.

Re: MIL gifts

  • I'd get her a gift card for a restaurant, or a pedicure/manicure or a massage.
  • Gifts to the parents seem new to me, but then again I'm a married old hag. I told my son all I really wanted was for him to make me a wedding photo book from Shutterfly, or some such place. What are her hobbies? For example, I love gardening and flowers so appreciate anything related to that, even a gnome statuette.
  • I hit the in-law jackpot with both my son and daughter in law.  We have a wonderful relationship and speak to each other even when my son or daughter are not present.  It sounds as if you may have a similar relationship.

I received very personal, heartfelt cards from them either just before or on the day of their respective weddings.  That alone meant the world to me.  My daughter in law also treated me to a "day" with her once all the wedding events and "settling" were complete.  We took in a play and went out for lunch.  Best gift ever.
  • Appreciate the ideas, I was on the fence about the water globe because I'd hate it to become just another knick knack around the house.

  • We didn't do parent's gifts, but MIL and I did get pedicures together the week of the wedding.

Another idea would be a gift card to her favorite place or even a photo album after the wedding.

  • I love giving "experience" gifts -- a spa day, tickets to a concert/play/musical/ballet, a round of golf at a nice course, weekend at a B&B, etc.

We also got both sets of parents photo albums that I made on Shutterfly, which was ABSURDLY easy, and not terribly expensive.

  • We got both my parents and his parents gift cards to their favorite restaurants.

  • We gave them simple frames of an engagement pictures at the RD, and then I made them all photo albums for Christmas.
