Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

music at ceremony question...

We are having our wedding in a park where we are not allowed amplified music. I am trying to figure out a way to have music for the ceremony but a musician is a little out of the budget. Any ideas?

[QUOTE]My sister had her FI's niece play the flute solo. It was very pretty. If nobody in your family is talented, ask the local high school band director to recommend a student. My daughter hired a harpist. I am a retired church organist, so she wanted something different than I used to play. Cost was $350.

This is an AWESOME idea. I would've loved to do this when I was in high school.
  • If you have a nearby university with a music school, you may be able to find students from there, too. Guitar, flute, harp, and violin would all sound lovely. You may even be able to find a student string quartet. You'll still probably have to pay a few hundred dollars, but most are probably looking more for experience and recommendations than for a lot of money.

I know you said you can't use "amplified" music -- but can you ask about using a small boom-box or iPod with speakers as long as you keep the volume to a minimum? I don't see how this would be any louder than live musicians. It's worth asking about anyway.
