Hi CAB

I really want to be more motivated to wear makeup when I go out. It's not that I don't like it, I'm just not motivated by my extremely boring makeup collection. I know this can get pricey so I want to start small as I begin replacing stuff that's 23 years old due to it's lack of use. What are 34 staple items everyone should have in a makeup collection? I don't trust the people at the makeup counter to not just try to sell me EVERYTHING. And most of my stuff is really old and needs replace so even the most basic things are things I need.

Re: Hi CAB

  • TK mobile hates hyphens too. Make up that is 2 to 3 years old and 3 to 4 items. Not 23 and 34.

  • The 34 threw me for a loop!

    I can't live without:
    (1) good mascara
    (2) good eyeliner ... I use MAC's fluidline ... http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/shaded/151/898/Fluidline/index.tmpl
    (3) a combo foundation/power compact ... so easy to travel with and touch up

    ...

    and

    ...

    (4) blush ... 'because after the foundation I always look super washed out!

Haa me too. I was thinking damn you are going to give Kim K a run for her money.  HAAA

I use bare minerals and love it.
  • Lol to the 34 items! Good thing you clarified! I have to have my BB cream, bronzer, eyeliner, and mascara.
  • At least TK mobile is good for a few laughs lol.

  • Mind if I jump in - I actually have a makeup/skin care question I wanted to post for CAB and didn't want to create a whole new thread.

I have what I think might be a scar from a horrible pimple I had last month on my chin - what would you recommend to better heal it so it won't scare and something that'll help prevent/heal any skin damage and sun damage?

  • Amh: there's.this acne scar removal that I use by Clinique. It's pretty awesome. Also, you need to start wearing moisturizer with SPF daily. There are a lot out there that are tinted even. BB creams are perfect for that. They have like a range of spf 1550 and gives great coverage.
  • I have to agree with Kara, I use Aveeno's spf 30 moisturizer...but no tint. I don't typically like to wear foundation..so I use just the moisturizer, an eyelash curler and some mascara. Oh and I can never forget my chapstick/lip stick. :)
  • Ummmm...I thought this post was for ME! Hookers. LOL! Just kidding :)

Ok, the bare minimum must haves for me are the following:

    1. Bare Minerals powder foundation (LOVE my BB cream, but since we're talking bare bones, the BM foundation does the trick on it's own if you're not worried about too much coverage.)

    2. Bronzer.

    3. Mascara

    4. 1 everyday eyeshadow. MAC's Motif is my favorite.

ALWAYS wear SPF under your makeup. Most moisturizers have it in them now, and BM powder foundations also have it in them.

    AMH,
Vitamin A may help prevent sun damage and vitamin C may accelerate skin healing.
For the scarring, there is Hydroquinone, but it's kind of hard to find products in the US with this ingredient. One that I know works really well is this one by Murad: Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum, but you HAVE TO MAKE SURE you always ALWAYS put SPF on after using this product, because sun and lighting products never mix. They make scarring worse.
  • Thanks for the advice guys :) I normally wear a SPF but I'll make sure I continue to do so, I'll check out the recommendations. I really appreciate it!
