I'm new here

Hi knotties. My name is Heather. I'm newly engaged (sort of) and new to this board. Actually, I'm new to posting on forums period. The whole wedding planning process started off as being nothing but exciting. Unfortunately, being overwhelmed has been putting some of the excitement on the backburner.
I am 22, my fiance is 25. We were engaged on March 31st, on our 4 year anniversary. We're planning our wedding for the summer of 2012.
We've picked out our wedding party, I've already purchased a wedding dress, and I have the entire wedding planned out in my head.
On the other hand, my fiance and I are on an extremely tight budget, making the wedding of my dreams seem unfortunately unattainable. We will be paying for the wedding with very little financial help. I'm trying to stay confident that we are resourseful enough to make the most important day of our lives a beautiful one.

We are planning for an origami theme for our wedding. Having such a long time before the wedding, folding all of the origami will give me something to do to pass the time until I can marry my love. Our colors are purple and white. I've already purchased my dress (and I love it!). We are planning on an outdoor wedding with an indoor reception. We are doing an ipod playlist for the reception. My cousin is doing our photographs. My aunt is making our jewerly. My mother and I are sewing the bridesmaids dresses. My dad is finishing up his classic '54 Ford truck for our transportation (he's painting it baby blue for my mom). I am DIY-ing pretty much all of my decor. Our budget is soooo tight (have I mentioned that?) which makes it all the more special to have family and friends willing to help out.

Our biggest challenge right now, aside from not having $10,000 laying around, is finding our venues. We need a very affordable outdoor space for a ceremony, preferrably with an indoor alternative. We're also looking for a very flexible reception venue. Currently we're looking at having our events in one of the Minneapolis suburbs (maybe get away from the anxieties I associate with the cities). If any of you have any ideas about this I would love to hear them. Also, I'm excited to read more about your weddings and help you out with any ideas I have.

I'm one of the first of my friends to be getting married (the first of my friends to get married had a star trek themed wedding in the park, lol). So It's very nice to have a local community to turn to. I look forward to getting to know you all, hearing your ideas, and gawking over all of your wedding photos.

Hi and welcome! Yay for another uber planner! (I was engaged April 2009, will be married Sept 2011, and have planning pretty much since we got engaged) The oragami theme sounds super cute and congrats on finding a bunch of help and ways to cut back

Welcome! Ha I am also a uber planner :). I got engaged in Jan 09 and will get married this Oct 2010. I honestly cannot believe it is so close as I can remembered when my count down was over 600 days!

I am also a DIY bride - prolly because we had so much time - and if you want to see what I have done I have a link to my Bio below in my signature and there is a DIY tab where I have compiled pics and descriptions of most if not all of my projects. None are origami themed but maybe it will give you some sort of DIY inspiration!

We also are paying for the wedding ourselves which is one reason for the long engagement. What we did is save 20% of every paycheck and put it into a different savings account that we opened just for a wedding fund. That allowed us to set our budget as I just forecast out and calculated what 20% x that many months would get us. It worked really well for us.

I am brand new here also!  I am enjoying reading all of the articles and postings by everyone!  My fiance and I just recently (in the past month) got engaged.  We are thinking Dec. 2012, but I already feel like I am behind in planning! lol  What area are you looking for in the twins cities to have your ceremony and reception?

    Thanks everyone for welcoming me!

leggwilliams- I love the picture in your siggy! It's gorgeous.

drdifabio- Your centerpieces are beautiful. My fiance and I set up a savings account a couple weeks after our engagement. Unfortunately, his hours just got cut at work and we have been having a tough time putting much away. Both him and I are job hunting right now for better options for us.

Steph0871 - Thanks. Like I said, the biggest planning issue we're coming accross is finding venues. I guess, if you have any good ideas of veeerry budget friendly, but beautiful locations, I would love to hear them.

MN_Jen- I definitely will. So far it's just ideas in my head. My fiance's trying to make sure we get the big things dealt with before I get carried away with crafts.

mindycoffman- Welcome! Congratulations on getting engaged. We are looking for any options. A couple of the places we've looked at so far have been in Plymouth. I really like the Plymouth/Golden Valley area. But anything would be fine. Even if it's in the actual cities, as long as it's not a pain the butt to get to. I'm having a hard time even finding places to check out.

We're doing ours at The Little Log House in Hastings. I don't know if it's the cheapest option ($1400 for ceremony and reception, I think), but it's not a ton of cash comparatively.

It's beautiful and has a gorgeous grand-lodge style reception hall - another benefit is that you can use any outside caterer, so you can save a lot that way.

    Welcome and have fun planning!

That is beautiful Debbie! Thank you.
The one place that we have found is about 1200, but is definitely not the prettiest. I'll have to get my fiance out to check that place out.
