Bridal Alerations

Im just curious as to how expensive your bridal alterations were for your wedding dress?  Mine were $325 (through a bridal salon) for taking the dress in a little bit at the bust and doing the classic bustle (is that what it's called when the train is picked up off the floor and pinned to the back of the dress).
This does not include sewing any cups into my dress or a hem.

Re: Bridal Alerations

  • I bought the sample and had it taken in about two sizes (and they're going to fix the boning in the bust since it didn't fit right), hemming, and a french bustle. I don't know the total cost but we agreed no more than $400.
  • My alterations are going to be about $275 to have the dress nipped in at the bust and waist, hemmed, and bustled.  I am not going through the salon, I'm taking it to my own seamstress.
  • ok, now i"m really scared how much its going to be to do mine.  I only paid $450 for the dress.  I dont want the alterations to cost half or more of the cost of the dress!
  • I'm paying $50 at FMIL's seamstress. I bought my dress used and it's already my height and has cups and a bustle.  The alterations are to take it in all over (the other bride was a size bigger than me). I have to get it cleaned for $200 though so I mentally include that in my "alterations budget" because if I bought it new it wouldn't have needed the cleaning but it would've cost more for alterations.

  • I bought a Casablanca gown so they come pre-hemmed so no charge for that. I didn't fit into one of their sizes so they're custom-making it for me ($70.00) so as long as my measurements don't change (fingers crossed!) I won't have to pay any more for alterations. It's an extra $50.00 to have the outer lace be the same length as the underneath part. They make it so the lace is longer and you can see through it, but in order to walk, the underneath part has to be really short and you'd see my feet and I don't want that. They're not charging me for my bustle and I will have to pay for the cups (they don't charge to put them in) and I think those are $10.00 each. Total of $140.00...as long as my measurements don't change and I find 3" heels/wedges/boots that I'm happy with so it doesn't have to be hemmed (I originally wanted to wear flats or my cowboy boots, but she convinced me otherwise) - if that's even an option!

I have a casablanca dress too, and had the designer make it strapless for me ($130).  I got 2.5 inch heels and the length of the dress is perfect.  My dress is being taken in about a half inch on each side of the bust, and she's doing the regular standard bustle for $325, it seems like way too much, but nothing I can do about it now!  I wonder how much it would have cost if I had to have it hemmed too?!
