Home Made Salsa!

So my parents used to own mexican restaurants and we had a very famous salsa, the restaurants closed down and till this day family asks us for our salsa.
I was thinking about bottleing it up into cute little jars with ribbon and tags with a cute little saying. I asked my co workers what they thought and I got a few responses with "Thats real mexican... :/" Should I carry on with my idea? And if I do what are some cute sayings I can put on the tags?

You are still a very far time out, and  have more than enough time to think about this! Is the theme of the wedidng mexican? Are mostly only family members coming, so they will know the history of the salsa?

As guest favors you can do whatever you would like (ie. some people make pies etc...). If this is what you and your fi would like to do, then go for it! You also have to think of how much time, supllies, etc it will take. The good thing about the Salsa is it will hold for a long time if canned property.

Something you could do is use your colors on the jar (padding, ribbon, tags, wording), as far as the wording goes, you can put anything on there  "thank you for joining us on this special day". My FI and I are doing candy "Enjoy some kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs." but anything can be on the tag.

[QUOTE]I love the salsa idea; it's a great gift to the guests that likely won't be wasted, and it's personal.  I would include a label or tag explaining the origen of the idea/salsa so that the guests know why it's such a special gift.  Several years ago when my Cuban/Irish friend married her Irish husband, they gave cigars and mini bottles of Bailey's as their favors.  I thought it was great. Wonderful idea! PS, even though neither my fiance nor I are of Mexican descent, we are likely making Mexican sugar skulls (possibly in chocolate-we need a test run first) for our favors, b/c we're getting married on Dio de los Muertos.  I plan to include a tag on or in the favor box explaining the tie-in.

gosh you made me feel so much better! LOL!  The Dia De Los Muertos idea is so cute, and they do sell the molds for that so I would imagine it to be fairly easy!

As far as is my theme mexican? No, but I AM. and so is everyone else attending...

I think salsa would be fine regardless of the theme.  And it's something that's bound to be enjoyed by almost everyone, so I'm sure it will be well-liked.  Good luck!

P.S.  I would also recommend not talking about your wedding too much unless others ask you questions.  A lot of brides get frustrated because everyone wants to give their two cents when you discuss all the details with friends, coworkers and family.  I'm sure you're excited, but a tight lip will go far in wedding planning.  I'm not saying keep everything secret, but keeping wedding talk to a minimum would be wise.

I agree, I should tighten up my lip a little better, but yes, excitement is getting the best of me.

My DH would be trying to steal other guests' salsa while they were on the dance floor.  OMG he would love that.

I have one question though.  How will you package this for food safety purposes?

well the salsa that we make is not FRESH (that sounds kinda nasty but you know what i mean) it has lots of condiments and vinegre, so it usually lasts about a month or so...and i would bottle it up in one of the flip jars with the clasp on top

  • I am actually thinking of doing Salsa Favors too because my fiance LOVES mexican food so I am using that as a way to make my wedding more personal. My soon to be mother in law makes it homemade from her garden and everyone loves it! We are packaging it up in little jars and decorating with ribbon, etc but I cannot think of a cute saying for it! I've seen on Pinterest cute sayings for honey or jelly such as "Spread the Love" for jelly and "Meant to Bee" for honey but I want something cute for salsa!!!!
