Maui Home/Private Beach Front rental..

Hello, I am really trying to plan my dream "feels like" my own backyard wedding in Maui. Is there any other brides trying to find a house style or private estate to have for a wedding reception? That's NOT 25, 000/ night!

Help!? Please...

  • We are having ours at paradise point estate in kapalua... Check it out, right on the reef.

  • We began our search with the idea that we wanted a private house / estate so that we could stay there for several days, not get kicked out at 10, and generally have a less formal wedding event.  We began by searching vrbo and a few luxury vacation rental sites for a property that could accommodate a decent size event and sleep a lot of people.  That narrowed down the list of possible venues very quickly.  Of course, I think I had set the filter at 'less than $4000 / night' too :)

Ultimately, we found almost everything we could want - and a lot more - in a home that is not located on the beach.  If you give up that one parameter, expecially if you're cost conscious, you'll have better luck.  Our venue is in the Upcountry area (basically, the hills in the middle of the island).  It's not cheap, but when I factor in how many people can stay there, the value is good.  We're paying for the accommodations for several family members out of our budget.  The only downside about the venue is that finding accommodations nearby for other guests has been a challenge.

In terms of finding a private estate on Maui, one thing to consider - a lot of Maui homes are built in gated communities.  They are much more strict about how many people can be on the premises at once, simply because the homes are close together and noise and / or parking can be issues.

While I'm really excited about our venue, I can certainly see the benefit of doing it at a facility that is accustomed to holding such events, and where they might be able to provide some coordination advice.  Little things I have to think about, that I probably wouldn't have to if I were doing it at a regular venue - having enough lighting (I've already been told it's dark); are there enough refrigerators and freezers for ice; do I need to bring in a sound system (it's a home, not a party hall); etc.

That's where my head is now.  :)
  • I don't believe there are any "private" beaches on Maui.  They are all open to the public.

  • How big are you thinking the guest list will be?  Some private homes you can rent but they do not let you host weddings on their properties.  I have come across this when I was looking for houses that could accommodate a large group of people.  Olowalu is a beach front estate that is popular for ceremonies and receptions.  Also Sugarmans is another one that you could look at.
  • Here's a cute private place that isn't Olowalu or Sugarman's.  It's not beach front but overlooks the ocean.
  • This is where we are hosting our ceremony and reception for 75 guests...

  • I went through Anna at Exotic Estates.  She's wonderful to work with and has plenty of suggestions at different price ranges.  We ended up going with a property near Lahaina but up the hill.
  • Thank you everyone, and yes I understand that no beach is private in Maui... but I also know there are stretchs and stratches of beach that are only shared by those homes that back on to it.. that's what I am looking for. But I am open to ocean views if its more in my budget :) Thanks for the tip!
  • Check this property out. Not sure of your guest size, but I am having my wedding ceremony and reception here for 30 people.
