Candle or tall centerpiece ideas?!?! HELP

It's me again ladies...I'm ripping my hair out trying to figure out affordable centerpieces.  Our venue is BIG so I want to do something pretty high.  I'm not super crazy about flowers, nor are they affordable to do something of this sort.  Does anyone have any ideas.  I really like the idea of using candles but they have to be enclosed somehow...now just sitting on like a plate or something (venue rules).  I want something super romantic and am just at a loss.  Any suggestions would be amazing!  Thanks again and happy planning!

What about a centerpiece with branches?  I'm making my own using curly willow branches, and then some Ikea ones I found at a yardsale.  I added ivory wooden roses to them to add something - but if I were to do it again I would do some sort've fabric flower, just to do something different with texture.  I'm doing a second lower centerpiece with a hurricane vase and a candle.

I love the branches idea. Maybe you could even wrap them with a vine to add color. Or even drape them in ribbon in your wedding colors?

My reception is at Soldiers & Sailors, which is HUGE.. so we will be doing tall centerpieces as well.

We're probably getting 22" tall square glass vases, filling them with green apples, then sticking some little twigs at the top with some hydrangeas.  At least that's the plan for now.. we might tweak it a little.  Here are 2 links to pictures that we used as inspiration (our colors are chartruse green, chocolate brown and ivory, so we'll obviously use that color scheme):

Perhaps this is a little more whimsical than romatic - but what about a tissue paper topiary? Again, if you don't like the look of flowers, this may not be for you, but if it's more about the expense, you might like this.

You could do this in whatever color scheme you're using. I'd nix the ribbon, in my opinion.

    Hope this helps!

I have the exact same scenerio for my venue- Huge ceiling (Carnegie Music Hall), not a big flower person, and I love candles. Love them.

So this is the idea I came up with my venue.-

    - Very tall clear glass vase (cylinder or square) with one or two flowers completely submerged underwater. You can do many types of flowers and if you type in 'submerged flowers' into google you will come up with lots of ideas.
    - Floating candle on top
    - Various heights of candles surrounding the large vase. I am considering doing chunkier vases with smaller floating candles and then small candles. Some people also put rocks around the vases and other candles in a small circle to complete the look.

I love the idea because of my love of water, the candles, and the costs are low as you aren't paying for a ton of flowers, just rentals. And you still get some height. Carrie Ann Powell is doing them for me at a great price.
