  Dress appropriate to the venue, maybe up a notch.  Your guests will probably dress appropriate to teh venue, and you probably want to look a little special-er. 
  So wear a dress, not white.  Be comfy, you'll be in stiff clothes at the wedding, so no need to suffer two days in a row.  ~Donna

  Why not wear white?  Lots of brides wear a white dress (obviously, not a FORMAL white dress) to their rehearsal/RD.
  
  For my first wedding, I wore a blue floral dress to the RD.  This time, we're not having a RD, FH and I will be going out, just the two of us the night before the wedding.

  we got it right the second time around! ten.twenty.twenty-ten.

  I agree with pp, dress maybe just a notch above what would be appropriate to the venue.  Wear what ever color you want.  If you aren't comfortable in white, maybe something that has white with navy.  I'm looking at it as a chance to dress up a little.  We don't get much of a chance to that these days.  If your fi is in slacks and a nice shirt, what would compliment that.  Funny how what seems like such a simple thing can make us worry about it this time around.

  Funny Story:
  OUr OOT guests were asking what to wear to the RD. It was at a golf club so I said dressy casual, and I probably would be a little more dressed up since I'm the bride. Good. I tell my son no jeans, just a nice shirt with nice pants. My sister takes him to get him a new polo. Great.
  My fiance, has a fit because he doesn't want to dress up. He wants to wear a TANK and shorts. I'm having a stroke because I told everyone what the dress code was and now my fiance wants to break it. I had to decide if I wanted to fight over this with him or not. I told him he'd better not show up in a TANK!!!! Well, it was a warm day and he wore shorts with a tank and a shirt over it. The shirt was off in 5 minutes. He showed up at the Golf Club in a Tank, my Aunt Eileen, said quitely "someone's in trouble" ..... we all laughed. But really there was nothing I could do.
  I didn't want to argue over something so trivial the day before we wed.
  Here we are: Me and my sisters all dressed up and him.... in a tank .....
  At least my son wore shirt with sleeves..
  
  Things got better after I got over the shock of him wearing a tank to the RD:
  
  Him and I getting ready to serve the cake..... and smooching.
  
  Moral of the story, no one really cares. Don't make a big deal out of it if your fiance doesn't want to dress up. He's such a casual guy, I had to make him button the top button of his tux shirt the day of the wedding.

  Wear a pretty dress!  Any color, even white.  My good friend just got married and wore the prettiest, white one-shoulder knee-length dress.  It was super cute.   My other friend also recently married (lots of weddings this year) wore a red sundress.

  Oh, it's sort of fun and wonderfully girlie to ponder over this sort of stuff, even if it is not how we are apart from the wedding world, Angie!  A navy dress sounds great, slacks and a nice shirt for the FI would be super.  Go for it! 
  
  As long as the two of you are comfortable, that is what counts.  Enjoy!

  The FI is great about dressing nice for dinners out, and the reason for the question was more to help me budget for my attire.  Given the group of people that will be at dinner and knowing that they dress up for every occasion to do so I think it would be a good idea if I also did so. So once again a dress hunt will be underway, but at least this one is a cocktail dress and a popular color so it shouldn't be too difficult.  I have a white dres that I could wear as well but it might be too summery for April.
  
  The venue for the rehearsal dinner hasn't been totally set yet, but it could be the same venue as the wedding.  We will be there to rehearse how we will be entering the ceremony site so, the FI was thinking why not have them cater the reheasal too.  My issue with that is a lot of our bridal party is from out of town and I would like for them to experience more than just our venue.
