Independent jeweler in CT?

Does anyone know of any reputable independent jewelers in CT?  My grandmother just offered me my great-grandmother's diamonds from her wedding band, and I need to have them reset (the original band is from the 1920s and is very brittle).  I'd rather take them to an independent jeweler to be reset, rather than to a chain.  My family used Bernie Fields in Middletown for years, but then they moved to Westbrook and then closed.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  TIA!

IDK if you're willing to travel to NYC, but the people who made my e-ring are amazing  and nice and wonderful to work with:

Simply Majestic in Mystic!  I used to work there a couple years ago and they are fabulous.  Chuck, the owner, is also the jeweler and he does really fantastic work.  He made my engagement ring and I recommend him to everyone who asks.  Plus it's in Mystic, and the weather is gorgeous, so you can make a little mini road trip of it! :)

not sure what area you're in, but Marks of Design in Shelton is great.  my mom has used Kate for lots of things over the years.

I'd definitely recommend Jewelry Design out of Danbury. They are awesome and have the shop right on premise so you can actually see what they are doing to your ring as it's being done :)

Wow, you ladies are quick!  You've all given me so many great ideas -- thank you!  I'll have to check all of these places out and talk them over with FI.  Thanks again for all the help!

FI went to school with the family at Baribeault Jewelers in West Hartford and Glastonbury.  Great family, expensive but very trustworthy.

Monarch Jewelers in Farmington and Canton are great.  My family has had several things made there before.  I am actually planning on doing the same thing with the diamonds from my great grandmothers ring, and although not ready to really take the plunge yet (we're not getting marreid until next august) they've already been really helpful!

Not to give you more options....George Preisner's in Wallingford is amazing. He's actually my parent's jeweler. He reset my dad's grandmother's diamond in my mom's engagement ring. He's not afraid to tell it like it is either. He'll be very direct and up front with you.

Go to the diamond district in NYC.  You will save major money.  My ring was custom made and it is so incredible.  They made a new mold for my ring and everything is perfectly aligned and set.  It is worth the train fare.

If you are looking for another place in middletown, Malloves is great. They have this man who literally sits in the back and will custom make or reset anything you want. I've never been dissapointed there, and neither has anyone in my family!
