2nd most important thing in a wedding - FOOD! What are you going to serve?

I have about 5 months left, and I am about to start food tasting.  My fiance and I are both gujrati, but we are most likely going to serve mostly north indian food, and some non-indian dishes too.  What are some dishes I should try out?  I would love some suggestions for sangeet night, ceremony lunch, cocktail hour and reception dinner food.  We are definately going to have some simple tried and true dishes such as chicken tikka masala, paneer masala...  but also want a few different items in the mix.
I'm really curious to see what you ladies are planning on serving!

No clue but I'm sure when we do plan all that, it'd be vegetarian as both he and I are. Even though almost everyone on my side is a carnivore, I'm sure it'll be a vegetarian wedding and reception.

We have a lot of non-Indians coming to the wedding so we didn't want to do a full Indian meal. Most of our Indian people are use to American food. So we decided to do Samosa, Vada, and a few other things for the cocktail hour. The main course is chicken -- I haven't finalized the meal with the venue so I'm not sure what else we are getting.

We did indian food for events.  I kind of left the decision of food choice to our parents as they were not really involved in other aspects of the planning (decor etc)

We had 2 passed hors d'euvres:  vegetarian dumplings and seafood basil dumplings.

Everything else was served (family style) to the tables.

    1.  Double Happiness Cold Platter -five-spice smoked beef, jellyfish salad, char siu pork, and smoked duck

    2.  Pan-fried String Beans

    3.  Prawns and Scallops

    4.  Hot and Sour Soup

    5.  Velvet Filet Mignon Tenders

    6.  Crispy Spring Chicken

    7.  Shitake Mushrooms with Greens

    8.  Steamed Fresh Black Bass

    9.  Braised Soft Noodles

    10.  Chilled Mango Pudding

So, 5 were veg, 7 were halal/not haram, and there was enough meat for the carnivores.

For cocktails:  veg samosa, veg cutlet and chicken pakora.

For reception: palak paneer, dal makhani, aloo gobi, kabab-e-dilruba (it's a tandoori chicken breast kabab marinated in herbs and almond paste), zarda pulao (a Kashmiri rice) and Kashmiri naan.

Mehndi/Sangeet we're still working on, but we're having South Indian (and might throw in some Indo-Chinese).

We tried to pick some more meat/poultry/fish dishes, but we are a bad judge of them because we eat predominantly veg. We were also trying to do non-Indian/non-veg, but it just wasn't working out for us.

Edited to note that FI's family is Jain, so even though everyone in my family (except me) eats meat, this is a strict vegetarian wedding.  We are serving things with eggs and onions/carrots/potatoes, but I think we are trying to have at least some dishes for the more orthodox Jains in attendance.

Mehndi night (South Indian/Indo-Chinese food): dosa, paneer chilli, idli sambar, hakka noodles, mango lassi, someotherstuffthatIamforgetting.

Wedding reception (Punjabi & Mediterranean-influenced American):

Appetizers - aloo tikki, pakora, sweet potato fries, mac&cheese bites, tomato soup sipper, pizzettes

    Salad: spinach salad w/raspberry vinaigrette

Stations: risotto, antipasto w/fresh mozzarella, mashed potato bar

Punjabi buffet: navratan korma, shahi paneer, baingan bharta, pulao, raita, etc.

Day-after-wedding puja lunch (traditional Gujarati): rotli, daal, baath, shaak.  Pretty much.
