Africa Mission Trip

Hi ladies!  I don't really frequent this board, but I have a question that I thought you guys might be able to help me out with.

My sister and I would really like to go to Africa on a short term mission trip (1-3 weeks).  We're particularly interested in working with children and/or orphans.  Has anyone ever done a trip like this?  What was the experience like?  And, most importantly, who did you go with?  I'm looking online, but I have no idea which companies/groups are reputable and which are not.

Any advice you guys can give would be wonderful! : )

TIA

Check out www.shorttermmissions.com They have a search engine where you can find trips and organizations based on the types of trips you're looking for and the locations you want to go to. My FI and I want to take a missions trip to Africa as well. I love the idea of kids and orphans and he loves how soccer is such a big part of culture there (he's a soccer player). We've looked into a soccer/drama mission in Costa Rica too. I actually majored in missions in college

A few years ago I went to Kenya with my pastor and his wife (she had been a missionary there before they were married).  We went as a prayer team that travelled to various places in Kenya where World Gospel Mission has a presence and we talked to the local people there and prayed with them.  We went to a baby center where they take in orphans, a college, a hospital, Maasai area and Nairobi.  In Nairobi, we visited two orphanages.

It was spiritually exhausting but amazing.  The people in Kenya are so wonderful.  The children are precious!  I wanted to bring a lot of them home with me.

World Gospel Mission sponsors trips and this is their website with their 2011 trips.

I think you can join in with any of the open trips but I don't know what their focus is for the trips (although the AGC Baby Center trip that they did recently is the baby center that we went to).  You could contact WGM if you wanted more information.

Sometime in the next few years one of my goals in life is to go to Uganda for a month and volunteer at Watoto Child Care Ministries.  It's a really cool orphanage of sorts that's Christian based, has a great school, develops leadership, and actually takes some kids and forms touring choirs that go all over the world to perform and educate people about Uganda!
