Tuxes

How do we do this?  I want Fi to get the ball rolling, but he doesn't have a clue.  Should I go with him to help him pick it out?  Do all of his guys go at the same time, or does he just tell them where to order and they go by themselves?  Does he wear a tux that matches the GMs, or is his different?

Thanks!

Re: Tuxes

  • It depends on where your going. With my bridal shop they have something online that i can go design what we want, print it out and bring it in when the guys go so they know exactly what we want. Or you can make your appointment and go look through the books that they have and decide from there.

His can be different or the same its whatever the two of you want. FIs groomsmen will be in all black tuxes and FI will be  in a grey suit and black undershirt and tie.

You can have them all go at once so you know its done or you can just tell them the information and [hope] they get the right thing and do it on time.

  • We only need tux's for Bradley and one other groomsmen because the others will be in their military dress uniforms.

Bradley checked w/ the store where he is renting (Jos A Banks) and they said to come in a couple months before the wedding and they will make a profile for the wedding. His brother (and our dads) can go in on their own time and they will take measurements of them.

  • I think its up to you. FI and I are going to go together to pick out the suit that FI and his groomsmen will buy. But if you are comfortable with sending FI with his GM I think that is fine too.

This just made me think of something... Ive seen some groomsmen but not all in a wedding some wearing dress blues and the other non-military groomsmen wearing tuxes. Out of curiosity, is this typically what happens? If a groomsman or FI is in the military are they required to wear their uniform? Or do they choose to?

  • FI and I both wanted them to wear their militray dress uniform (I love a man in a uniform Wink). Also, FI didn't want to add on the cost of renting a tux on top of flying and travel costs.

  • We decided to buy FI a tux because he needs to wear one on a more regular occassion than most. We just went to Brooks Brothers a week ago and got it because they were having a 40% off sale.

If you're renting them, I would go talk to them with your FI. This way the 2 of you can go and decide which style you like best. Then your FI can either get all his guys together and go at one time or you can give them the information and they can go whenever they get a chance. Just give them a deadline to get sized by because boys are known to procrastinate.

  • Im going with FI to pick his suit and the GM because he tried doing it with his mom but the lady at the store told him it was better if he went with the bride because I'm they one that knows all the details, so we are going next weekend

  • My fiance and I are actually going this week to go pick out the tuxes for the guys to rent.  I don't know if I would want the guys going by themselves to pick them out since they are all pretty clueless as to what would look good so my fiance and I will pick them out and then the information will be ready for the other groomsmen when they are ready to go get fitted and pay for the rentals.
  • FI and I just went to pick out his tux last weekend! I would go with but the groomsmen don't need to. We went through Men's Wearhouse - since there are more than 5 groomsmen in his party he can get a free tux rental or suit -not sure which one he's going to do yet but that's a great deal!

I went with FI, his BM and one of his GM. I went to make sure they didn't pick out something obnoxious (because they totally would..complete goofballs). For the other 3 guys, and 2 fathers, they can go in on their own time and give FI's name and our wedding date, and get measured and pay and they will all go pick up 2 days before the wedding.

What we did: Our colors are light blue/chocolate brown. FI is going to wear a white vest/tie. BM/GM will wear the blue vest/tie. Fathers will wear a black vest/tie combo. They will all have the same style vest and tie, just in the different colors. It looks really cool :)

  • FI and I went and picked out the style and colors alone, and his measurements were taken then and there.  The shop we went to was local only, but we were told all of the boys just need to get their measurements taken and call them in, at which point she'll ask for the deposit - but, since they're guys, and I'm coordinating, she also said I am welcome to gather the measurements and call them in as well.  She gave us a piece of paper that showed all of the measurements that need to be taken, in case any of the guys go to a tailor or someone who isn't necessarily familiar with "typical" tux measurements.

I LOVED the shop we went to, it's an entirely local service and their storage facility is about 45 minutes from where we are, so any mistakes or problems can be corrected in a day, and the rental time starts 2 days ahead so you have plenty of time to make sure things work.  She told us about a groom who was getting married that day; he had ordered and been measured 6 months prior, and then lost 40 lbs, but didn't bother telling her until he came in to pick it up!  She had to get him an entirely different tux, because neither the pants nor the jacket came anywhere close to fitting anymore!

  • FI and I went a while ago to Men's Wearhouse and picked out the tuxes that all the guys will be wearing.

FI will have a white vest & tie, BM will have a mercury(grey) vest & tie, the other GM will have lapis vest & tie, and my uncle (walking me down the aisle) and FFIL will have black vest & tie
