Hello girls.

First of all, let me say that while I've been on here for a while now, I mostly lurk, so I only post when I feel a definite need. That said, this one seems needed. It probably leans more toward a rant than anything else, but I can't really talk to anyone in my life about this right now, because 1. we would like the world to be surprised when they do eventually see the ring on my finger, and 2. our families and friends aren't exactly supportive of us...(we are an interfaith couple, he is LDS and I'm an evangelical Christian...there is some religious tension between our families and friends, but not between the two of us. More on that later, and only if somebody really wants to know.) Anyway, I digress...
So, depending on your definition of the word engaged, I either am or I am not yet. We talk about our plans for the future al the time, and know that we are getting married, have started planning minor things, and even have a rough idea of when we want to get married. But there hasn't been a down-on-one-knee-proposal...yet.
Last night, he and I were getting frozen yogurt, just hanging out and spending time together, when he grabbed my iPhone, opened the web browser, searched "engagement rings", and said, "Let's pick one out." I was speechless, and definitely asked if he was serious a few times. So we browsed, and found a few styles we both really like. Today we went to a jewelry store and looked at a few, but they were way out of hs price range. He isn't cheap, and he really wants to find me the perfect ring, we just don't have a lot of money right now. We are both in school and he works on a commision basis, and I'm self-employed, so it's a bit difficult. Anyway, we have both been looking online, and I have found a few I really like, but ultimately, I want it to be his decision.
So, I was wondering if anybody had any advice, anybody's man bought their ring online, or if anybody has had a similar experience...
