Re: usmc sword detail

  • It hurt like hell and I couldn't sit for weeks.

    Really just kidding.

I will say that if you are acting all worried infront of the guys in his shop you are totally playing into their hands.  The more you act worried the worse they are going to make it seem.  It really is nothing.  I could hardly feel it since I had a crap ton of stuff on under that dress oh and not to mention the dress.

Sorry hope that doesn't sound too b!tchy.

  • Tell me more about this crown... I have no idea what she is talking about.

Yeah, it is reminding me of fraternity paddling. "thank you sir, may I have another?"

  • Well basically the short story of a long story is that tradition is after you leave the church/venue what ever the case my be after the service the bride and groom walk through a saber arch and the last two hold their swords to prevent the bride and groom from leaving until they kiss and then when the bride and groom walk through the arch one of the guys pats the bride on the butt and says "Welcome to the (Branch), Mrs. XYZ" at least that is how ours was done.  H is Army but I am pretty sure it is the same for all branches.  Here is a picture.  It is also reserved for specific ranks.  I know officers in the Army (again that is all I know because of H) and maybe E-7 and higher (totally not sure on that one).

Here is a pic (not of ours) HAA:

Really it is nothing to get all worked out about.  I mean they don't tie you down and beat you with the sword.

I thought is was so funny!!! I looked at the guy and was like "I hoped you enjoyed that!"  His wife was really funny and later on that night she was like "I try to get him to do that do me all of the time <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /> but he never gets that into it." HAAA we all have a big ol laugh about it.
  • There used to be this creepy stalker-like Marine that would come in where I bartended in college and tell me about this stuff.  I used to spend as much time in the kitchen avoiding him as possible.  On that, I digress.  From what I gathered from him is at the end of the arch of sabers the last guy (not sure if it's on the right or left) spanks the bride with the saber and says "welcome to the family".  Creepo-Magee used to brag about being "that guy" all the time.  FIL turned him in for a number of misguided actions on top of being a total creep and he's no longer in the MC, even spent some time in the brig.

  • Ha ha, that's cute, Crown! Yeah I highly doubt someone is going to beat the brides ass with a sword, though! LOL

And lesson to be taken from this...get your friends to be the people in the arch.

    OOO that is creepy.
  • Crown beat me to it...

  • Yeah, you are kind of freaking over nothing.  Like Crown said, the more you get worked up over it, the funnier the guys will think it is. I was welcomed into MH's unit with a shot of 252 (Wild Turkey and Bacardi 151).  That's a hell of a lot more painful than a pat on the butt with a sword.

  • Oh and to add by the end of the night all of the guys started acting like Captian Morgan.

I will add to OP, see a couple of posts down about trying to find swords.  Again none of our guys had them and we had to get replicas (that were approved) because they are so expensive.  I would check to make sure they have theirs.  We tried to get them from the base where H is but they don't loan them out.  I hope you have better luck with getting the loaners than me.

You bet.  I am good with the butt swat questions.  HAAA

    How are you feeling?
  • edited March 2012
Haha, it's totally not that bad!   I'm pretty sure H picked out which one of his friends got to slap me on the ass before he did any other kind of wedding planning!  Plus, depending on your dress, that may provide some cushion ;)

I agree w/ Crown...they are definitely  just giving you a hard time b/c you're acting worried.  Try going along with it and acting like you CANT WAIT to be welcomed to the military in such a loving way. And if you're looking for a second opinion, I was not tied down and beaten with a sword either haha!
  • I'm feeling good crown :-) tired as shiit but good. I'm still kinda confused, do men actually hit the girl hard? Like hard enough to leave a mark?
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Oh no, it's not hard enough to leave a mark!  It really didn't hurt, you just kind of feel pressure more so than a sting.  I did have quite a bit of padding under that dress though.

I'm sorry I'm asking a million questions. Did you wear a butt pad or are you being silly and meaning your actual butt and dress was the pad.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Bahahahaaa I just meant my dress provided a lot of padding with all the layers it had! I was not actually wearing any type of adult diaper or other additional padding Smile

Haha! Okay, with OP's concern I didn't know if people got all worried and wore butt pads.

I never even considered the option, but that would be quite hilarious!
  • I'm pretty adamently against the butt slapping.  I don't think we're going to do that, and if we do, it will be FI's best man and I have informed him that if he smacks me hard, he better be prepared to walk around the wedding with a black eye after!

Seriously though, don't stress.  Any guy who hits hard enough to hurt isn't a gentleman.  Try to get a friend to be in that position of the arch.

I am glad your feeling good. Tired yeah eek! I am so happy for y'all!

Oh and by the way the arch left a huge ass print. I thought the welcome was the brand of the sword on my ass. Haaaaaaa
