Botanical Center Weddings: Is it HOT in there?

Hi,

I'm getting married at the Botanical Center in October, so it SHOULD (knock on wood) be relatively cool, weather-wise, but I'm still starting to freak out if we get an unseasonably warm day. I know people get married there in the summer all the time, but there's no AC!! Is it awful and do people bake, or are there magical cooling garden gnomes peeping behind the plants?

Thanks!

I can't completely answer your question.  I do know they have doors in both rooms that open and could provide a breeze.  If your wedding goes into the night, it should cool and you should be good.  Mine is 9/14 there next year so I've thought of the same thing.  Worst comes to worst you know it will be warm and rent a few AC's before the wedding.

Summer weddings I would assume it would be a little warmer.

  • I'm getting married there in October as well!!  If you are having an evening wedding, you will likely not have to worry too much about the heat.  I know that there was a bride that got married there last October, and while it was one of the hotter days of the month, she said that it was warm, but with all the doors open, there was a nice breeze.  Are you utilizing the tent, or the reception greenhouse?

  • My wedding reception is there on 10/13 and I'm wondering the same thing! Also- are you gals planning to bring any decorations into the greenhouse, or just let the greenhouse decor speak for itself? And- are you happy with your caterer choices? Sorry for all the questions-- excited to chat with others having events in the Botanical Center! :)
  • I will be bringing in floral arrangements/candles....not that I don't think the Botanical Center is beautiful on its own, but the color is mostly green.  I also will do some sort of lighting and I have colored linens.

I love my caterer and am okay with my catering choices.  I have about a year left, so I plan to redo my menu slightly.

  • I originally wanted to do paper lanterns over the dance floor in the greenhouse, but everywhere I ask is over $1200 just to hang them, so that's now out of the question.

Instead, I'm just doing white linens with orange napkins, and bringing in my own non-floral centerpieces.  I'm also decorating the benches with pillows that I made to spruce it up a bit.  I'm not doing any uplighting, so I hope that it looks alright.

We are going with Russel Morin for our caterer, and we have been extremely happy so far. Our tasting was delicious, and our coordinators have been fabulous so far.

  • Great to hear everyone's ideas! We are not using the tent, so I am just going to keep my fingers crossed that night breezes and those "magical cooling garden gnomes" work hard. I am starting to really like the idea of those garden gnomes, actually! Can we ask Heather to make 'em happen? ;)
  • Yep : its warm in there: it feels like florida.

I asked Lori: who gave us a tour:  if we could bring AC units in there in case we got a warm day:  she said no.  The plants are tropical, and the place is temperature controlled for them.  Windows can be opened and the doors:  but i would suggest asking if you could bring in Fans to keep the breeze moving...there seems to be quite a few walls that could potentially block breezes

Also I would warn your guests to wear lightweight fabrics...they may overdress for a fall wedding.
