Non-Traditional Venue Ideas?

Hello DC knotties! I am a former CA bride helping my sister plan her DC/VA area wedding. She is looking for a modern/metropolitan/non-traditional venue. She has ruled out the usual locations: golf courses/country clubs, hotels, historical mansions/plantations, gardens, wineries, etc.

So far the only location I have found that she is considering is the Torpedo Factory Art Center (http://www.torpedofactory.org/).

Any other ideas?

The Torpedo Factory would be awesome! Also in Baltimore there are a few Science and Art museums but the names are escaping me right now.
Also, in VA there is the "Top of the Town"-I never made it there but it looked fabulous on the website with a whole view of DC.
There is also the Ronald Regan building and Strathmore...hth

I reeeallly wanted Torpedo Factory but thought it was too far from my ceremony venue. I am doing Strathmore Music Center. My runner-up was Galleria at Lafayette Plaza but I have heard they are not doing receptions anymore?? Not sure about that.

I also was really interested in the Museum of Women in the Arts, but its like $9,000 to rent...I think you get some back in tax rebate (its a "donation"), but it was a little over my budget....

Check out the American Visionary Museum in Baltimore. It is a little kooky but super fun! They have what they call the "barn," which normal houses large pieces of art but can be cleared into a large open room, and there is a garden attached. It is also very close to the inner harbor.

Check out Newsuem - we had a work event there and the views of the city are amazing and the food is catered by the Wolfgang Puck restaurant.

I would also check out the House of Sween (Swedish Embassy in Georgetown), Signature Theatre in Arlington and The Shakespeare Theatre/Harman Center for the Arts. Best of luck!
