Any suggestions for a wedding dress cleaner??? HELP!

I really want to wear my mother's wedding dress and it fits perfectly!  The only real issue is that there are stains from her 1970's deodorant.  Does anyone know of a place that cleans dresses???  It's made of satin and lace, although the stain is entirely on the satin part.  I'm located in the Dedham area, but work in Boston.  Although, I'm pretty much wiling to drive anywhere in New England if the place is good enough.  Also, once (if) I get it cleaned, I am hoping to have it altered (and take off the Karen Carpenter sleeves). Any help you can give would be great!!!

  • My dry cleaner/tailor is in Peabody Mass.  Her name is Anna and she works (owns maybe) at Tremont Cleaners.  My mom always uses her for everything dry cleaning and tailoring and did an amazing job in my first fitting, two dresses and we were done in a half hour.  I go back next week for the bill and 2nd fitting.  You could call her and pick her brain at least on if what she recommends and such.

  • Wow, it might be impossible to remove stains that are 35-40 years old! I'd try calling the cleaners first to see what they have to say. Dependable Cleaners in Quincy is supposed to be excellent - maybe try them? (Plus they're close to Dedham!)
  • Thanks for the suggestions!  My wedding is 15 months away and I'm trying not to get my heart set on wearing the dress, just in case no one can get the stains out.  Worst comes to worst, I buy a new dress and just sew a piece of my mother's into the inside lining.

  • Orchid Cleaners in Newton had been reccomended to me by a reliable source and we went to have them look at the stain and they were 90% certain they could get it out and it was an oil stain... however I will say that my dress only had a small oil stain from a hanger on it and my mom went to ACE hardware and bought a stain remover for clothing that she was sure would work, tested it on the inside hem of the dress and it work without leaving a mark so she was actually able to take the stain out herself so maybe you could try that as well.... I wasn't going to be able to wear my dress either if it didn't come out so I completely understand your predicament!  Good luck!
