Re: Rehearsal Dinner Ideas

  • Hi mdr! How many people will be there? What part of town? What's the budget? Any food preferences? We looked at places in Little Italy, Old Town, and even some of the parks like Presidio Park.

We're looking at roughly 25 people. I'm not sure what the budget is! What should we expect to spend? 1000? A lot of my wedding party is coming from north county so hopefully we can find something between clairemont and no county. Suggestions?

  • La Jolla - there are tons of restaurants and hotels. Same with Del Mar... I'd try to stay coastal so your OOT guests can enjoy a nice ocean sunset that evening. Just off the top of my head, Jake's, Poseidon, Ki's, any of the restaurants in Del Mar Plaza, Piatti, Whisknladle down in LJ... Those should all start somewhere around $50 pp though, as a warning. The expenses add up fast!
  • Oh also the big hotels all have banquet halls for this stuff. The Lodge, Hilton, Estancia, L'Auberge, Grand Del Mar, etc.
  • This site won't let me edit. :/ I just remembered, there are some cool spots in Encinitas too (one, the name escapes me right now but it's at the corner of Encinitas Blvd. and Coast Hwy.). Also, Elijah's in UTC has a private room. That one is probably more budget-friendly than some of the other ones. I also thought - all of my price points are for a Friday in August, which is a pretty expensive time due to the races and all. Other days/months may be more reasonable. Good luck!

Thanks!  I didn't even know where to start!  Thanks for the great ideas...so helpful!

Also, I was thinking...should the RD be near the ceremony site??  We're getting married at the Mission Beach Women's Club.  Should I look in Mission Beach-ish area?

  • I'd guess it depends on whether there will be drinking, and where most of the people will be going afterward. We will serve wine at ours, so we are having it close to our main hotel - midway between the rehearsal location and the hotel, really. I'm not so familiar with Mission Beach. I know Catamaran and Bahia do lots of wedding stuff. I had a work meeting at Bahia a few years ago and the food was pretty good. They could definitely accommodate your group.
  • I'm getting married in Paradise Point in Mission Bay and rehearsal dinner is going to be in La Jolla at  Aloha sushi. It will be about 15 mins away from the resort where the wedding and rehearsal will be held. Paradise Point has a really nice restaurant there, either the Barefoot bar and grill which is casual (our group was too big for there) they have a great outside area that looks out over Mission Bay or a nice restaurant called Baleen. I would have chose the rehearsal dinner to be at the resort where the wedding is going to be held, but Fi's parents are hosting, so they have the final say in that.

Near mission bay - Beaumont's in Birdrock is one of my favorite places! Great food and drink!

Last night FI and I went to a friend's birthday dinner at the Union Kitchen and Tap in Encinitas. The food was kinda offbeat for my tastes but still delicious. The cocktails were amazing and they had a small but nice selection of local brews on tap. Ambiance was great - very laid-back, open air, a little quirky. Street parking. I think it's worth checking out!

We are considering having our rehearsal dinner on the patio at Fred's Mexican Cafe in Old Town since that is where we had our first date. The food is decent and they have big ass margaritas and beer and our guests can feel relaxed and get rowdy. :)

  • I would have loved to have ours in Old Town - Fred's is super fun!! Alas, our families aren't into Mexican food at all, so we ended up picking an Italian place.
