Catholic Churches in Austin

I'm new to the Austin area and recently engaged.  My fiance and I are both Catholic and would like to get married in the church.  I don't know much about the parishes around here.  Can anyone recommend a parish and/or priest/deacon they like?

I currently live in San Marcos, but would like the wedding closer to Austin as we will have many out-of-town guests.

Thanks!

My advice would be to first establish yourselves at a parish where you live. Once you do that, you can get permission from your priest at your home parish to have your wedding in Austin.

I agree with akg0053's post.  All of the churches we looked at (in Central & South Austin) required that either one or both of us be parishoners of the church or of another one in the area.  I lived in San Marcos & attended St. John's before moving to Austin but never became a parishoner.  So, we had to start from the beginning in Austin, register as parishoners at my new church & wait 3 months before we were able to schedule an appointment with our church's marriage preparation contact person.  We're very lucky that we started looking early on :-)

St. Mary's Cathedral downtown is a beautiful church and I would've loved to have had our mass there.  But, we had already become parishoners at our church and  the fee for non-parishoners at St. Mary's is pretty hefty compared to other churches ($1000 plus needing to get your own priest to offer the mass because their priests only officiate wedding masses for parishoners).
Hope this helps & good luck on finding a church for your mass.Smile

My friend got married at St. John Vianney in Round Rock.  Very pretty church.  I don't recall if they had to attend the church (if they did, it must have only been a few times), but they did have to meet with the priest a few times for counseling.

The price must have not been much b/c they went there after another church was charging ridonculous fees.

    Hi,

We are getting married at St. Austin.  My fi is catholic, I am Methodist and he isn't a parishioner at this church.  We didn't have any problems booking them without being a parishioner, it is of course more expensive if you aren't and let me warn you that it is expensive.  I couldn't believe a church would charge so much but it is where he wanted to get married and maybe all catholic churches are more expensive than the Methodist churches I had looked at.

It is a beautiful church inside and the Priest is great.

    Good luck
