Needing help with ceremony site/ideas

I'm planning a wedding for next May in Cincinnati. We have already booked our venue for the reception. However, as much as I love the reception site I would like something different for the actual ceremony. My fiance and I aren't religious, so churches are out. We aren't looking for anything too traditional. I've tried checking into the park system but it seems as though many of the nearby parks are set up for you to rent both the ceremony and reception site together.

My biggest problems are that I'm planning this from out of state and I don't know Cincy that well. I would also like to rent an old fashioned car for the wedding but there aren't many options listed on the world of the internets. Any ideas? I have a friend that suggested Fountain Square. Has anyone had any experience there?

Thanks in advance!

  • It would be helpful to know what part of town you are looking for, like where your reception site is and how close you want the ceremony and reception to be. Also price range and number of guests would be helpful to know too. Just so we can make better suggestions for you. Smile

The Cincinati observatory, The Museum Center, Devou Park, are all lovely places.
Never been to a wedding at fountain square but it could be a really cool place too.

Would a non-denominational chapel be considered 'churchy'?  SEM Villa Chapel is lovely (Art Deco), holds ~225 people and is extremely modest price-wise.  It's in old Milford and very easily accessable.  As PP asked:  where is your reception site?

I don't think I'd want to consider Fountain Square unless you want to pay for security to keep people from crashing the ceremony. I've been to weddings at Cincinnati parks where cops had to keep people from inserting themselves into the festivities.  And if that's just a park, think what a huge job it would be to keep people at bay at Fountain Square.

Let us know what you decide.
  • just my .02 but if I were a guest AND knowing that you are not religious, it would be a pain to have to travel to two locations.  My rec would be if you want a ceremony NOT at where the reception would be, make it walking distance
  • We considered the wedding site through Hamilton County Park District at Withrow Nature Preserve.  It is on the east side of town and is lovely if you are looking for something outside.  The parking is convenient and there are some great places for pictures plus the rental includes rooms in the adjacent lodge to get ready pre-ceremony.  www.greatparks.org

  • We are having the reception at The Redmoor which is on the southern side of Cincy. I don't want guests to have to travel very far, but I'm very unfamiliar with the area.
