*yaga!!* Also, "Nice Name" Game

HEY!!! I saw your post but I couldn't reply and then I kinda forgot about it.

I am SO GLAD you tried that recipe. How did everyone like it? What kind of rolls did you use? What'd you serve with it (cus I usually serve onion rings or roasted potatoes)? How much leftovers did you have? Cus I always have a ton.

OK I just wanted to put this out there because it's something I notice a lot while I'm at work and that is names. I love, love names, always have - what they mean, where they come from. When I write stories, I agonize over their names.

On a daily basis, some names stick out more than others while I am at work. So, today, I made a list of names - ACTUAL names from REAL people - that I really couldn't get over.

Berlinda
Brei-Yana
Camellia
Camera (female)
Demariye (male)
Ermine
Kerolyn
Lasheena
Nadezda
Noir (female)
Olwyn (female)
Prosper (female)

I'm sure there are more, but those are just from today!

Anyone else encounter an awesome or interesting name lately?

I have a secret name for my hopefully future daughter that I don't tell anyone :) Its unique but not made up or unheard of. lol

I always have people in my classes that have names that are close to a common name, but are slightly different and I have the hardest time with it. Like currently there is a woman in one of my group projects and I have no idea if her name is Diedra or Dierdra.

And, my name is Carolina, pronounced Caroleena, youd' think I'd be better at that!. lol

So is Belinda (my name) ... though I wonder if that lady named "Berlinda" gets called "Belinda".
I've had my name confused for Melinda, Linda, Lara, Brenda, Barbara, Elizabeth and one employer who was going deaf called me Cassie for some reason.

Even people I send emails to - emails with my NAME on the BOTTOM - call me "Brenda". So I misspell their name as a tiny bit of revenge.

BF's cousin just had a baby boy and they named him "Haydler". I think it's handsome...it's actually the grandmother's maiden name.

I also have a cousin named Katherine Kerl Smith ..."smith" is not her real last name. Kerl is another grandmother's maiden name used as a middle name. She goes by Kate, but I always thought Katherine Kerl (like curl) was so pretty.

Finally, my mom's first name is Dotsy. I love it because it's so unique. Apparently it is actually a term of endearment in German or Czech. It's pronounced like "dot-see". I'm thinking of using it in some way if I ever have a daughter.
In Response to *yaga!!* Also, "Nice Name" Game : By everyone, you mean me and BF?  Because yes, I made that entire recipe (4 lbs of meat!!) for just us.  And he wasn't even home to eat it the night I made it.  hahaha  He had it for dinner last night though and LOVED it.  Told me it rivaled my mac and cheese, which is a pretty big deal.  I'll be making that and mac and cheese the next time we have people over for football I think.  :) P.S.  I had it for lunch 2 days in a row, BF is having it for 2 dinners, and I'm freezing 3 more cups of it.  SOOO much food!
    Posted by yaga13
Hahaha I thought I read you were making it for when people came over LOL! I made it for me and FI the first time around and we ate it for days afterwards, so the next time I made it, we had 3 other people over - and we STILL had leftovers. It freezes really well, by the way - when you're ready to unfreeze it, pop it back into the crockpot and put it on the warm setting - it'll take an hour or so but it'll be good as new when it does!

It's also SUPER amazing with a little melted cheese on top ;)

You actually inspired me to make it again this week once I can get to the supermarket.

Two of my bffs are Siobhan and Deirdre, for some reason people have major issues with reading those names correctly. I love them!

And somebody's baby is named Shaphan, which I have never heard of.

Huh, I always thought your name was Liv (or Olivia) My first name is Jordan, which was pretty unusual for a girl in the '80s. All my siblings have pretty unique names, and I'm glad. I did get made fun of in elementary school for having a "boys" name.

My name is Courtney. Fairly boring, except that when my mom named me it had NOTHING to do with the Courtney-craze in the 80's - it is her maiden name. Her father had all girls, so she and her sisters told him that whoever had the first daughter would name her Courtney. Enter me!

Here are some girl names that my sister encountered of the kids in her summer camp program, and I am kinda in love with some of them. They're all girl's names.

PS jen -  I LOVE the name Siobhan (pronounced Shi-von!) but it always makes me think of a different ethnicity than Irish.

My SN, everyone thinks my name is "Amy" but it's "Amber".  Amsy is just my nickname.

I love unique names! I want to name my first girl "Amara", as in a genus of carabid beetles (I didn't know it was a real name when I came across the genus).

I have a cousin who named her twins "Hunter" and "Payton".  I also have a friend named "Storm".

I went to high school with a girl named Modesty & also a girl named Scandia (her mom's Spanish, her dad's Italian, they met in college & they named  her after the hotel they stayed at on their honeymoon).

My name's Rachel for those that don't know.  My mom actually wanted to name me Ryan (knowing I was a girl) & for some reason I was born, my dad said Rachel suited me better (Rachel is my aunt's name -- my mom's sister who is my godmother) & my mom agreed.  Everyone tries to spell it Rachael & that makes me angry.

Lauren -- your DH must have never seen Golden Girls because if he had he'd be totally on board with Sophia! She's the best!!!  FI actually LOVES the Golden Girls LOL

My name isn't all the common but not common enought to ever make it onto anything personalized, lol.  My grandma would find all of these personalized things (toothbrushes, key chains ect) with my brother and sister's names on them.  I always got the generic "granddaughter" one. When I think about kids names I prefer something different, yet easy to spell and on things like key chains...

I love the name Madeline for a girl and Christian for a boy, but I never tell anyone.  I will probably be one of the last of my friends to get married and probably have a kid. I never share the name for fear of someone stealing that name- yes like the sex and the city epsiode.

I've got a boring, Biblical name. XD

My sister is Christy, which was a family surname and almost never spelled that way when used as a first name. She had some interesting conversations when she went to Ireland, because it's commonly used as a male name there. A couple other interesting names from my family would be Heman (my great-great-great grandfather) and Truby (my grandmother), neither of which I've seen used anywhere else.

Working in the field of social work, I come across an awful lot of "why would you name your child that" or otherwise unusual names. I would have to say my favorite work-related name story came from a guy who pitched Jiraya to his girlfriend as a name for their younger son. She liked the sound of it and agreed, and didn't realize until she got curious and googled the origin that she had just named her baby after an anime character.

    My name is Emily.

I get all sorts of crazy names at work. I've found numerous goups of twins with almost identical names like Evangelina and Avangelina.

We were naming a coworkers unborn baby and some of the names we came up with were Quantaytae, LUTHA (not Luther, lutha) Fiona, Shrek, and my personal favorite, Donkey.

The name(s) that always get me is Alyssa/Alicia/ etc. I have two friends who both spell their name Alyssa but one pronounces is Al-ee-sa and the other Al-iss-sa. I don't see them too often so I always forget which way to say it.
