Congrats!!! The first step is to enjoy it and keep calm. The next steps are budget and size of the guest list! We've got a great bunch here so ask away!

Obviously I am uber-excited. Was hoping for this but since nothing happened over the holidays I guessed he wasn't as ready as I was. haha

Before I go dump a bunch of money on books, planners and magazines, I thought I'd get some direction from you Knotties! My friend was addicted to this site while she was planning her wedding. I know I have tons of time but I need to channel all of this excited energy!!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! So far we chose the date and told our parents and asked them to start thinking about how many people they would want to invite.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. You'll need a good sense of the budget (who's contributing and how much) and you can probably get a better sense once they give you a sense of guest list size. But beware...guest lists are evil...they creep up on you and grow from sweet little kittens to giant scary tigers, hahah. Sorry, that's the wine talking (and my stress over my lack of rsvps). I really haven't spent any money on planning tools. I've found everything I need online/on the Knot. I've bought the occasional magazine but other than that not much. I do have a planner and she's been a huge help but there are lots of brides on here who plan without one!

Thanks for the advice. Wine sounds good I feel like I am full of all of this nervous energy! When mt sister got married last year they spent a bundle like 45k, ridiculous to me. I'd rather have a small romantic intimate affair and put that kind of money down on a house. I guess I will have to talk to my fiance about that. See how he feels.

That's definitely something you guys should sit down and talk about. Everyone's dream wedding is different and there's a huge range here on this board. First figure out what's right for the both of you, then go from there!

It's probably my wine talking as well...OR the fact that Lucky and I are in the same places in our planning...but yeah, guests lists suck! I just assembled 2 new invitations on Thursday and sent them out. They Just.Keep.Growing! lol Good luck with that.

Everything Elizabeth has said is true. Budget and head count is the best place to start. I would definitely grab some wine and a few magazines (AKA bridal porn) and rid yourself of some of that excited energy. It's fun to flip through them and give your mind something to focus on.

Get an empty notebook w/the clear sleeves and some dividers. Make categories (cake, flowers, reception, dresses etc) and as you're flipping through the magazines rip out what you like and put it in the notebook. This will also come in handy when you have contracts to keep track of.

Welcome to the board and congratulations!

Oooh the notebook's  a good idea!  It will give me something to shop for. LOL

    Welcome and congrats!

Ditto to the notebook. I just went to Walmart and picked up a three-ring binder and a few dividers. It helps me keep everything in one place, so I always know where everything is.

    Hi Carrie,

So where in Pensacola are you getting married? What other vendors have you hired?

We are getting married at St. Anne's Catholic Church. I am looking right now for a place for a reception because there is a wedding 2 hours after mine. Just found that out.. ughh!!!!

I also hired a photographer from Mobile (True Self Photography) to do the bridal and wedding photos, but chose a dear friend who is a photographer in Pensacola to do our engagement photos (ToleHouse Photography). I am using celebrations for the flowers and still am looking for a caterer! ha ha! :D More than likely I am going to use classic city catering for the caterer because their food has been the best! :D

Hello!  I'm a former Pensacola knottie.  I got married last November at Tiger Point Golf Club in Gulf Breeze.  If you look a few posts down I listed a lot of my vendor info for another Pensacola knottie.  Congrats!
