What is a typical flower budget?

Hi Knotties, I have no idea how much to budget for flowers. I am having 6 bridesmaids and 150 guests. Any ideas? highs, lows? I like Hydrangeas, so I want to use it as the principle flower.
Thanks!

The sky's the limit when it comes to flowers. Typically you can expect to spend 8-10% of the wedding budget (but that can vary based on how important flowers are to you).

For 2000 dollars I am getting:
    My Bouquet
    2 BM Bouquets
    4 GM Boutonnieres
    5 Dad/Grandparent Boutonnieres
    6 Mom/Grandmother Corsages
    6 Aisle Markers
    Rose petals for the Aisle
    1 Huge Centerpiece for entry-way
    13 Table centerpieces
    1 Large Guestbook Table centerpiece
    Cake stand

We're using mostly orchid, roses, hydrangea, gardenia, and peonies.

I agree with the PP--plan on 8-10% of your overall budget, higher or lower depending on how much you need, how elaborate, pricing in your area, etc.

<div>You are in luck with your budget because hydrangeas are some of the more affordable blooms, especially if you pick the ones that come in popular colors.</div>

Wow!  My co-worker is doing our flowers (she does wedding flowers as a side job) and we are going to use just daises and some roses.  Our flowers will be less than $50 for everything.

    I did a wedding with 150 guests, 3 BMs, 3 GM, 3 ushers for $450.

    I did DIY from flowersandfreshness.com and fiftyflowers.com
I had about 20 centerpieces, but no ceremony decor.

I voted for the first one, but all of the options are over my budget. I'm DIYing everything, including at least 12 centerpieces, and am getting it all done for about $400-450 with flowers from Sams and the Flower Exchange.

If you don't mind a bit of DIY... I totally recommend buying your flowers online.  I have seen it done in 2 weddings now and am going to be doing it for my own wedding in June.

Great service and prices.  My sister's flowers (calla lillies) last almost 2 weeks after her wedding day in July.  Good luck!

My original budget was $300 for bulk flowers and DIY to put them all together. (This was based off of a friends wedding and with flowers that were avail.) Now I have more spacific flower choices so I think it will be more than that. I have to figure out venue, so we know what kind of tables, and how we need to decorate them. Then I will be getting estimates on cost. I will show them the size of bouquet I think I need and how many, and that hopefully will give them a good idea on how much to order, also. We will still be DIY them. :)
