How early is too early?

Hey ladies! I am getting married on May 25, 2013 and I'm just wondering how early is too early to start looking into the block of hotel rooms for our guests? I'm a full-time student so I am trying to do a little at a time while I'm in school, and I wasn't sure if this was something I could begin looking into now or if I should wait a little longer. Thanks for all your input! =)

I think some hotels don't book rooms more than a year in advance, so you might want to wait until then.  I waited too long to book our block, plus it's a home OSU football game day, so we wound up without a block, whoops.

If there's a big event near your reception happening that same weekend, I'd book the block as soon as the hotels will let you.  If not, I'd say 6-9 months in advance will probably suffice?

I think a year or less is sufficient. I agree that it is definitely too early to book them now. I would get the other stuff booked (venue, reception, etc) and then worry about the hotel block.

Are you doing STD's? That might help you as well once you gather all the addresses and get an idea of who might be coming from out of town and need to stay a night or two.

I was told to start a year out, just in case something was going on the day of your wedding.

We booked ours about 5ish months in advance, I think.  All of the places we looked still had rooms available.

That's kind of what I figured but I just thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks for all your input ladies! =) I'll probably start looking around the 1 year mark since it's a holiday weekend, can never be too safe!
