Talk some sense into me...

We got our proof disc for our engagement pictures in the mail. My mom called to say it was there and I was all excited...until I put it into the computer.

Every single picture has a HUGE "watermark" on it.

Every. single. picture.

I'm pretty upset. I could understand a small thing in the corner or even a small thing in the middle. She has simple white text tags in the middle of her pictures on her Facebook. But I get this?

Did your photographer do anything like this?

is the watermark just there for viewing's sake? i know when our photographer posted our sneak peek pics they had a watermark but when we order them they won't have it...you might want to ask them just to double check?

If the ordered photos have a watermark, complain, complain, complain. But the proofs have that mark so you order from the photographer, per your contract, rather than printing them at home from the proofs disk.

This. She did this so you can't copy them with your scanner. Frustrating I know, but it gives the photographer a safety net.

It's too bad that a photographer would feel they need to do this.  Fortunately when we did our e-pics, we were paying for the photographer's time and talent.  The disk that we received with all of the pictures was ours to keep and make as many copies of whatever we wanted.  Do you have to order the pictures through your photographer?

usually "proofs" have watermarks so you can't copy them.

My mom did our engagement photos, but I remember for my senior photos from High School, the photographer had us come into the studio and look at all the photos on the computer. We picked about 20 poses that we liked and she printed them out on 4x6 so we could see them. From there, we ordered which ones we wanted in the sizes we wanted.

Our contract says that the proof disc is "not for printing purposes but to share with friends and family through email, social media or other means."

I guess my thing is that with these huge freakin watermarks (WHY ARE THEY SO HUGE?!) I don't want to share them. I don't want to put them on Facebook, I don't want to email them to anyone.

We've paid a lot of money to her so far. Right around $2,000 and I'm starting to regret it now.

now that you've mentioned this I can see your frustration. I agree that she could have put a smaller watermark on the corner especially since they are for sharing with friend and family through email and social media.

I told FI that I don't even want to buy the high res disc from her now because that pissed me off so bad.

Those of you who have booked a photographer: you get your images with your packages, right?

Depends on what you paid for.  If you paid for a high res disc, it shouldn't have the watermark on it because you're buying the images.  Right now, she owns the images, therefore she has her mark on them so you can't steal them from her.  If you purchase the images, she no longer has the rights to them and you can do with them as you please.

</div><div>This for us too. My photog has a watermark on hers when SHE posts them on facebook and stuff, but it is in the corner. And when she sent the disks to us for engagement pics and wedding pics, we were able to print as many as we wanted and there were no watermarks. I understand how you feel, I wouldn't be happy about that either. </div>

That's kind of the point of the huge watermark, though... So you can't share them via social media when you don't own the images.  It does suck that the watermark is so large, because it makes it a litle hard to see the image and look at which ones you'd like to order, but you shouldn't be sharing images that you don't own on facebook.

    Seriously? Read the whole thread.

The contract says that the purpose of the proof disc is to share them and do whatever, but not print or reproduce.
