Sandals Emerald Bay - thoughts?

Has anyone been to Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, Bahamas?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

Re: Sandals Emerald Bay - thoughts?

  • We went there for my 30th birthday last year!  The resort, grounds, and especially the water are AMAZING-- the water is unbelievably blue.  (The photos don't do it justice).
It was a little quieter than some of the other Sandals and other chains we have been to, but not as quiet as Sandals Royal Plantation (which is where we went for my husband's bday).

I wanted to go somewhere quiet but not too small, so our travel agent recommended Emerald Bay. It was very new when we went, so our travel agent definitely warned us about some of the kinks at the time- which were all just because of the management transition.  There is nothing to do outside of the resort, so if you are looking for a place with a town, this isn't the resort for you.
My husband dives and he was really impressed with the diving there.  The beach is really long without an panhandlers, so it never seemed crowded and we never had an issue getting a chair.  The pool bar is the main hang out area, but it closes pretty early, then the your options were the lobby bar and Cricketers.  The restaurants were all very good- we ate most meals at Barefoot by the Sea since it was right along the water and the nights are so breezy there.  We went to the magic show at night, which was very comical for a resort show- I would recommend checking it out!

We booked a concierge level room but was upgraded to a butler room.  The butlers were OK, but they are definitely very well used at EB.  (We had butlers at 2 other Sandals and they were more attentive, but I think they had less rooms.)

If you get a chance, swim with the pigs.  We booked it through an outside guy our travel agent recommended.  If you are interested, I can pass along our TA's and the tour guide's info.  Our TA is a Sandals specialist, so she has tons of info on each resort and what to expect- all info I'm sure you can research on your own, but we find it easy to work with someone.

Oh, and if you go, definitely sign up for Sandals rewards while you are there.  We got over $400 credit toward our next visit at a Sandals for the Emerald Bay stay!
    Good luck!!
