I've been reading some of the boards and I just wanted to ask if anyone out there has been able to pull off a wedding for between $5-10,000 for 120 guests on a Saturday night. I've read many of the suggestions to have a daytime wedding (doesn't cut off nearly enough to make it worth it, in my FH opinion), on a different day, smaller guest list (we're at 80 with family alone), etc. I just got engaged and have been emailing around and the lowest quote I've gotten was $65pp, with tax and gratuity included. I know for Westchester that's pretty good, but I need to get it under $50 pp, inclusive. Is this possible?
My FH's family friend offered us her lake front property in MI, outside of Detroit, which may work, but my family is giving me a hard time about that being a lousy destination and too far from home. I take that back, my dad and sister are not, but my mom and older brother are. Weddings are generally in the bride's hometown, but seeing as I grew up in Westchester, it's ridiculously expensive. My parents aren't in a position to help financially.
I have over $50,000 in student loans and can't justify spending $30-40,000 on one day. I don't even live in the area (I"m living in Japan now), which is making it even more stressful for me to try to plan, as I can't see any venues in person until July (My FH is in grad school in CO, so he can't see venues easily either). And, it seems that by that time, we won't be able to find a place for July, 2012, as most places seem to book more than a year in advance.
My apologies for the rambling. I'm stressed by all of this and go back and forth on a destination wedding, eloping, and having a wedding in the States. So, back to my original question, has anyone been able to pull off a wedding on that budget around the lower Hudson Valley?
Thanks!
